A Race Car Party: Skyler's 3rd birthday

$

Skyler, our youngest, is now 3 years old! It was easy to think of his birthday theme since he absolutely loves cars for quite some time now.

This was probably the quickest party decors I've ever done since to be honest, I'm still recovering from the holidays. Plus, I'm so tired lately becauseI've also started organizing and decluttering around the house. But of course, I still wanted to make Skyler's birthday special even if we were just celebrating at home.

Oh, and I just love this bedsheet which fit perfectly with the theme! I didn't even realize we had it until this morning when I went in the kids' room. I saw it on their bed, instantly grabbed it and used it as a tablecloth. I mean, all the elements like the checkered flag and even the colors match! I still can't get over it lol ;p

So again, happy 3rd birthday to our bunso. You'll always be our baby! He was actually sleeping already but woke up while I was in the middle of posting this. And now he's handing me his firetruck hehe. So let me end this now and spend the last few hours of this little boy's birthday playing cars. :)

When it comes to raising a baby, a mother’s priority has always been about ensuring their health and development. For working moms especially, the ultimate challenge is getting the right amount of sleep for both her and her baby.

What with busy schedules and always being on-the-go, pioneer in the science of baby development, JOHNSON’S®, has developed a new mobile application perfect for all working parents. Featuring a set of proprietary and customized tools, the app is designed to be the ultimate sleep expert-partner for parents.

Tonight We Sleep™ App. Key Features:

Sleep Log: Parents are able to log-in a baby’s sleep schedules - this includes the times and number of hours that baby sleeps and wakes - for close monitoring of a baby’s sleep patterns. This feature even produces a sleep analysis score that comes with recommendations from JOHNSON’S® sleep experts!

Find out your baby's sleep score and discover more about your baby's sleep habits through the custom Sleep Analysis, generated from your baby's daily Sleep Logs.

Sleep Analysis: This feature provides parents with an analysis on a baby’s sleeping habits and provides answers to some of the most pressing questions parents may have. The results will come in according to the following sub-categories: General, Falling Asleep, Sleep Routine, Sleep Duration, Night Wakings, and Family and will likewise generate customized recommendations.

Find out more about your baby's sleep patterns in the 'Stats' section of your baby's Sleep Log.

Ambient Sounds:  Research has shown that ambient sounds can help induce sleep (for adults, just as well, as babies). With this feature, parents can play DJ and mix up to four ambient sounds at one time; just the way your baby likes for bedtime.

Lullaby Playlist:  JOHNSON’S® Bedtime™ also boasts of a wide variety of lullabies that parents can pick from! You can even set a playlist of up to four songs with no interruptions or advertisements. And the best part? The new lullabies have "all the science of sound embedded” so there will be no more second-guessing.

Choose from a number of classic lullabies in the Lullaby Playlist, or even mix up to four ambient sounds, to drift off  to with your baby.

Ask an Expert:  Parents also have direct access to JOHNSON’S® sleep experts who can answer all other sleep-related questions (not already addressed by the Sleep Analysis feature).

“Sleep is very critical to a baby’s growth and development. That is why we created the first clinically proven routine together with an app backed by science, to lead to better nights for both moms and their babies,” shares Bessie Campillo, JOHNSON’S® Franchise Marketing Manager.

Sleep Medicine and Surgery Specialist Dr. Agnes Tirona-Remulla also shares, “One of the best ways you can get your baby to sleep is through a bedtime routine. When you commit to a bedtime routine, like the three simple steps of a bath, massage, and quiet time, you will see progress in your baby’s sleeping patterns and overall demeanor.”

She also emphasized that with better sleep, babies can enjoy a stronger immune system, improved social skills, and increased abilities in learning and memory.

Alongside the release of the Baby Sleep App, JOHNSON’S® also launched the first scientifically-proven bedtime routine, guaranteed to help you and your baby to sleep for an additional one hour in just seven days. More details about the routine can be found in the new app’s features. You can also read more about it HERE.

The JOHNSON’S® Bedtime™ Baby Sleep App is now available to download on the Apple Store and Google Play Store for FREE.

Vacuum Cleaning Service with Happy Helpers

As part of my new year's resolution to organize and declutter around the house, I've decided to get a cleaning service to vacuum our mattresses. This has actually been long overdue since we moved in our home 5 years ago! I realized I really needed to get this done since we've all been getting symptoms of allergic rhinitis. Like I couldn't get a good night's sleep since my throat and eyes were always so itchy, plus we're all sneezing and getting runny noses all the time.

I searched online and read all about dust mites and bed bugs (ewww!) which was probably the culprit for all our allergies. That was when I found HAPPY HELPERS through some recommendations from a mommy group. There were actually other companies I inquired with, but what made me ultimately decide on Happy Helpers (aside from their lower price compared to others) was that they're a social enterprise that employs women from Gawad Kalinga communities.

When I inquired, they recommended a "Deep Clean" for first time clients, which is a general cleaning of the home. I considered this, but we're actually getting some minor construction done on a room pretty soon, so I figured I'll just do this after.

For now, I just got the HYLA VACUUM PACKAGE (with or without foam shampoo), which is an intense cleaning of mattresses and other furniture.

Here were the items I had cleaned (with foam shampoo):
- 1 queen mattress - P1,000
- 2 single mattresses - P600 each = P1,200
- 2-seater couch (1) = P800
- 3-seater couch (1) = P1,000
- 1 carpet (200cmx200cm) - P100 per sqm = P400
- 12 pillows - P50 each = P600
Total: P5,000 - which I paid in CASH after the service

Other available services aside from the Deep Clean and Hyla are Post Construction Clean and Move-in/Move-out Clean. They also provide the cleaning tools and materials and the transportation of cleaners to your home.

They sent 2 women over for my requirement, and the estimated cleaning time was a maximum of 5 hours. Our schedule was at 10am, but they arrived even earlier than that at past 9am.

their Hyla vacuum

This was after the first vacuum of our mattress. They did 2 rounds, then the foam shampoo, then they have you choose a fragrance at the end. I believe I chose Lavender which smelled really nice. Oh, and they also vacuumed my bed frame too which was great!

1st round
2nd round
foam shampoo
2 single mattresses in the kids' room
yuck!
pillows

For the living room, I just had the 2 couches and rug vacuumed. But I saw that they also vacuumed my throw pillows. Big thumbs up!

I'm really satisfied with everything and I'm glad to report that my allergic symptoms have really improved after this. I'm definitely doing this regularly from now on.

So if you're thinking of hiring a cleaning service, definitely give Happy Helpers a try. Email response is very quick for inquiries. My only issue if any was that it said there is usually no break in a 5-hour schedule. I was wondering about this since our cleaning schedule would fall within lunch and I didn't want them naman to get hungry. They did ask if there was anywhere they could buy food, but we were inside a village so none nearby. I just had them eat lunch with our yayas. :)

Staycation at Somerset Alabang

Our family loves going on staycations, and our last one here at Somerset Alabang definitely tops our list.

Somerset Alabang Manila is actually a serviced residence (similar to Discovery Primea Makati). Their lobby is quite small but still stylishly decorated. It's also near Insular Life and walking distance to Acacia Hotel and the restaurants right across it (McDonald's, Jollibee, Project Pie).

Somerset Alabang offers business and leisure travellers a choice of studios, 1-, 2-, or 3-bedroom apartments, all of which feature contemporary interiors with modern amenities such as a fully-equipped kitchen, separate working and living areas, a home entertainment system and broadband Internet connection.

We stayed in a 1-Bedroom Deluxe which had a comfortable bedroom, a spacious bathroom with bathtub, and a modern kitchen.

I don't know what their cable was, but their channels were all HD and so clear! There was even a Star Wars marathon that afternoon so we just wanted to lie in bed and chill (especially since we had just watched Rogue One a few days before). The best part was that there was another TV in the living area so the kids could watch their own shows without bothering us haha! Heaven!

There was also complimentary meringue cookies which my baby loved!

Guests also get to enjoy the residence's recreational areas - swimming pool, fitness centre, residents' lounge and a Cubbies playroom for kids. Of course, we were most excited to check out the playroom first, which was so cute and comfy!

There was also a TV which was showing some of my son's favorite Youtube videos!

One of their staff, Jerry (who also brought our bags to our room), informed us that there was an origami making activity at the playroom in the afternoon. I was surprised when HE was also the one teaching the class haha! He was seriously the NICEST guy ever! Even my kids kept saying how nice he was. He really made our stay there memorable and feel like home.

The kids with Jerry at origami class

This was the pool area at the 4th floor (a few steps away from the Cubbies playroom). Water was super cold though since this was in December, so I didn't even dare to take a dip. I don't know how my kids could stand it! ;p

the smaller pools on the right side are shallow for kids

they also have bikes for rent

Like I mentioned, Somerset is walking distance to restaurants such as McDonald's, Jollibee, and Project Pie. You could even walk to Festival Mall! This made it super convenient to buy food and eat.

good morning!

Breakfast was ok and yummy. My only complaint was that there was NO BACON haha! ;p

We had a really great time at Somerset Alabang! The best part was probably the service. Special mention to Jerry and everyone else who were all so accommodating. They even say "Welcome home" when you check-in and when they bring you to your room. Will definitely be back! :)

Tipsy Tvrtle in BF Homes

I've been seeing rave reviews from Tipsy Tvrtle and they're also always on some list of places to try in the South. Hubby and I finally had lunch here one time while waiting for our kids to get off from school. Tipsy Tvrtle is right beside Puzzles in Aguirre Ave. BF Paranaque.

The place has an industrial minimalist vibe, with its concrete walls, monobloc chairs and beer crates.

So this is what Tipsy Tvrtle stands for! Always wondered about the V in the spelling of Tvrtle.

Their menu features Asian street food, Pinoy faves, and grilled skewers. Perfect for an inuman session.

It was so tempting to try everything, but here's what we ordered:

Cheese Sticks - Their take on this classic appetizer. Deep-fried spring rolls filled with cheese, leeks and bell peppers.

Cheese Sticks P65

Chicken Curry Sate - Tender chicken thigh fillet marinated in Thai curry, cumin, turmeric, cayenne, and coconut milk for over 12 hours. A bit spicy.

Chicken Curry Sate P95

Pork Robata - Robata is the Japanese way of grilling pork barbeque. They marinate the pork belly for precisely 11 hours in Japanese soy sauce, mirin, organic honey, and garlic.

Isaw Inasal - A fusion of the classic isaw and our favorite Bacolod specialty. Isaw marinated in chicken oil, lemongrass, soy sauce, and vinegar.

Pork Robata P125Isaw Inasal P55

Sate Lilit - Straight from Bali, this skewer is a mixture of beef, peanuts, shrimp paste, and Indonesian spices. Grilled until moist and flavorful.

Sate Lilit P95

Star Rice - I HAD to order this! This Filipino classic brings back so much memories haha! Fried rice cooked with a healthy serving of Star Margarine and garlic flakes.

Star Rice P50

Kimchi Rice - A favorite in Asian food joints. Their kimchi rice is an ode to this classic buttery, spicy fried rice.

Kimchi Rice P65

We enjoyed everything and our total bill was about P650 with drinks already. Definitely something different for us and a fun food experience.

Crosswinds Resort Suites Tagaytay

After our stay at Pico De Loro last December, we went straight to Tagaytay for the continuation of our trip. We had lunch first at Highlands, then proceeded to check-in at Crosswinds Resort Suites, which is a Swiss-inspired property located inside the leisure community of Crosswinds Tagaytay.

The first thing you see when you enter the property is the cutest Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf!

Sitting atop one of the highest points in Tagaytay and away from the busy main road, Crosswinds definitely offers a quiet alpine escape to its guests. The thousands of pine trees and the view of rolling hills with sweeping vistas was so nice! Plus the weather that time was chilly so it definitely reminded me of Baguio.

We had a 1-bedroom suite for this stay which had a fully-equipped kitchen, dining area, and living room. It was very spacious and nicely decorated. With no corkage fee, you can bring in as much food as you want and cook, or have food delivered right to your suite’s doorstep. We had Shakey's delivered but since it was the Christmas season, they came 1.5 hours late! At least we had free dinner lol!

TV was quite small though
love all the details
bathroom was tiny considering the size of the room!

The room had 2 single beds which we just pushed together. We also brought an air bed which we used in the living room.

The room had a balcony, but since we were on the lower floor the view was just the street.

This was the room of my in-laws. It was smaller than ours but the balcony view was better. Plus their bed had that netting thing which the kids loved haha!

The Crosswinds Banquet Hall is located just across the street from Crosswinds Resort Suites. This is currently where breakfast is served to guests every morning. It also serves as the Guest Lounge.

They have an outdoor swimming pool but since the weather was so cold, we didn't even attempt to check it out haha. It was also quite far and you need to take a car to get to the pool which was quite a hassle to be honest.

Anyway, after checking out the next day, we went to check out their Christmas Village which had Santa's House and a Christmas Store.

On the way out, there was also a nice area to take pics, which we took advantage of.

Anyway, we had a nice and relaxing time here. We really didn't do much but just stay in the room and enjoy the lovely weather. Hope to be back during the summer so we can enjoy the pool. ;p

DIY Tie-Dye

$

My son had a70's themed activity in school and I thought it would be fun for the kids to do their own tie-dyed shirts! I remember loving this activity when I was younger, plus tie-dye was all the rage back then right? I even had this bright tie-dye shirt I wore all the time when I was in grade school. ;p

Anyway, I just bought the packets of dye in National Bookstore for P5.00 each. I love how this is still the same exact brand I remember using back then. Throwback! ;p

I also bought plain white shirts in SM. Then I used rubber bands to tie the shirts into different patterns. You can search online or in Youtube for how to make different designs like spiral, stripes, rainbow, etc.

I tried reading the instructions on the packets but I was a bit confused. So I just boiled some water which I poured into some cups, and put the dye in. I also read somewhere that salt helps with the solution so I also put a little bit of iodized salt in the mixture. I didn't have any exact measurements or anything though.

And of course we did this outside since I knew it would be messy. Plus I placed some cardboard to protect the floor as well.

Then I just let my kids get to work! I had them use a spoon so it would be easier for them to apply the different colors on the shirt.

I also read online that after you have completed putting the dye on the shirt, place it in a zip lock bag and seal it up. Try to leave it for at least 24 hours to allow the colors to really bond with the fabric.

I was super excited to see what the shirts looked like the next day! I took the rubber bands out and just placed them under running cold water. I just continued to rinse until the water from the shirt ran clear.

Here's our finished shirts! They're not as vibrant as I would have hoped but I still love them since the kids and I worked on these. And this is a great activity for kids since it doesn't matter if they make a mistake or mix all the colors together. The result will still look good!

Here's my little man wearing his groovy outfit! Bought the headband from SM, the necklace from a tiangge, and the fringe vest on sale from H&M (girls section haha!). His blue printed leggings are also from the girls section in SM lol! ;p Peace out everyone!

LEGO Brick-Amazing Sale (plus our loot!)

It was just by chance that I found out about this Lego sale last Friday night in one of the mommy groups in FB. I told hubby about it and was surprised when he said he was game to go, considering the venue was at SM MEGAMALL! I think he was also excited to check out the toys so he was willing to drive all the way to the north haha! ;p

So off we went bright and early yesterday morning. We didn't even tell the kids about it since we wanted it to be a surprise. When we got there and they saw all the Legos, they couldn't believe their eyes!

It was at Megatrade Hall and there was an average amount of people there. I was expecting a whole lot more, so I was happy it wasn't crowded at all. Lamig pa ng aircon! Oh and I saw in the banners going there that there was a P100 entrance fee, but when we entered there was none naman (buti na lang hehe). ;p

Of course, Lego is quite expensive so even with the huge discounts, a set can still cost up to P1,000 or more depending on the size. But the sale amounts were comparable to US prices (even less), so it was definitely a good deal!

Some of the really cheap ones like the Chima, Bionicles, and Ninjago Airjitzu had old and torn packaging already. Sayang, I wanted to hoard as gifts pa naman.

The kids were so excited to go home after buying everything, but we're in Megamall once a year so sinulit ko muna ang shopping haha! We ended up going home at like 8:30pm (we arrived there 11am lol!). Anyway, here's the kids' loot:

Christmas definitely came super early for these kiddos!
Chima from P980 to P280 & P260
Ninjago Airjitzu from P899.75 to P180
Bionicle from P799.75 to P160
Ninjago Blaster Bike - P900
Super Soarer from P799.75 to P480
Duplo Rally Car - P720
Painting Easter Eggs - P325
Friends Pop Star Recording Studio - P840

The best deal for me were these ELVES since they were at 60% off! We just bought them all since my daughter's 7th birthday is coming up so these were our early gifts for her.

keychains at P140
assorted polybags at P100 each (these were the only designs available then)

Anyway, you still have time since the sale is until today (February 5) at 8PM. So if you're near Megamall, check it out at the Megatrade Hall 1 to avail of huge discounts!

Our 8th

Today is our 8th wedding anniversary! We actually did a family photoshoot a few weeks ago and while the kids were busy running around not being cooperative (lol) I asked the photographer if she could snap some shots of me and hubby.

We kept laughing and joking na parang pre-nup lol. If you must know, hubby hates taking pics, especially cheesy ones with kissing or romantic poses. If you saw our pre-nup pictorial before, we were all dark and moody, without smiling or anything haha! It's definitely a big difference from these pics now. Maybe it means we're happier... and definitely chubbier lol! ;p

Anyway will be sharing more photos from this shoot soon. Just waiting for the official edited pics from the photographer.

So happy anniv to my best friend, my love, and my forever! Thank you for the last 8 years of wedded bliss. We've known each other and been together since year 2000. That's 17 years, literally half our lives! Thank you for taking care of us, for providing for us, and being the best dad I could have hoped for to our kids. I LOVE YOU!!!

Miley turns 7!

Oh my, I'm getting all emotional since I can't believe our firstborn and only daughter is now 7 years old. How time flies...

Miley has grown up to be such an amazing kid. She's thoughtful, responsible, creative, smart, witty, funny... oh I could go on and on. At times I catch myself staring at her thinking how beautiful she is.

She has her tantrums and stubborn moments, and I definitely see myself in her. I brace myself for the time she becomes a teen since I know we'll have our disagreements (just like me with my own mom lol). ;p

My favorite moments with her are when I tuck her in bed at night and we just talk. It's during these times when we're alone that she opens up to me and tells me about how her day went. She also asks me random questions about life, some silly, some deep. It's so funny because she hates it when I get emotional and reminisce about when she was a baby and how big she is now. She'll be like "Mom, stop being so mushy! Can we just talk about funny stuff?"lol!

I'm also so proud of her for doing so well in school, consistently getting straight As and 1st honors. She was the representative of her class for a spelling bee contest and was also chosen as the most disciplined. I just pray that she is able to keep this up for the years to come.

Even before she was born, I had dreams of throwing a grand 7th birthday party for her. But times change, and for practical reasons we just chose to have a smaller celebration. We discussed it with her and she said what she really wanted was to have her own room. Well, wish granted! Can't wait to show you guys the finished room after we're done fixing it up. :)

Anyway, this is just a DIY shoot I did with her at home to commemorate her being 7 years old. I just love all the rainbow colors which is also the theme of her party (which I'll be posting about in the coming days).

So happiest 7th birthday to our favorite girl! You are the best daughter we could have ever hoped for and we love you to the moon and back!

Rainbow Art Party Loot Bags

$

0

My daughter celebrated her 7th birthday last weekend with a rainbow colored art theme. To be honest, thinking of the perfect giveaway was really stressing me out because there were so many options! I wanted it to match the theme, be cute, and useful. My budget was about P150 to P200 each for 30 kids.

At first, I was set on giving away these crayon pillows I saw in Toys R Us which were P199. They were really nice but my daughter said she wanted loot bags with candies and other stuff inside. Well, she's the boss lol! ;p

So I thought of having those canvas drawstring bags made at first, but then these cost about P120 up. Another option was a wooden art caddy from Handicrafts Atbp. But I still kept looking for something cheaper since I would still have to fill them up with a lot of stuff which could exceed my budget.

Good thing I stumbled upon these paint buckets at National Bookstore which were only P66.50 each. I know I could have probably gotten something cheaper at Divisoria but hubby didn't want to drive me there! He said the amount we were going to save on these loot bags would probably be offset by the gas and parking fee going there anyway. Hay naku! ;p

Well, I really fell in love with these buckets anyway! They were the perfect size and the divisions/compartments made it easier to fill them up. Btw, I found these in National Bookstore Alabang Town Center but they only had 23 pieces. I found some more at the Glorietta branch so I was able to complete the 30 pieces.

I knew I wanted to give away coloring materials because of the art theme. I found these Crayola ones with an "Over The Rainbow" packaging which again was perfect for my theme! The regular 8pc. Crayola is P21.75 and these cost P24.75. For just P3 more, I definitely think these are way cuter! I was able to get these at National Bookstore Southmall.

These 8pcs. markers were P17.75 each. But then, I just found 7 of these in the National I went to at that time.

If you want to save a little, you can get the 6pcs. which is cheaper at just P10.50. I also wanted to add other art materials like a watercolor set but the cheapest one I saw at National was about P50 each which was too pricey for me. I mean, the cost really adds up when you compute all the items. But if you're able to find more affordable art materials like pencils, erasers, stickers, and other stuff go for it!

Anyway, I went and bought different types of colorful candy like Skittles, Nips. Nerds, lollipops, marshmallows, gummies, etc. I brought a bucket with me when I went to the grocery so I could see if the candies would fit nicely inside. And of course, compute compute compute to get the cheapest ones hehe!

Now my favorite part, assembling everything!

Here's how a bucket looked like with the stuff inside:

I was originally supposed to just add a thank you tag and ribbon to the bucket, but last minute decided to wrap it in cellophane! I had to remove the handle first though, because I didn't want the handle wrapped inside the plastic. I still wanted the kids to be able to carry it easily. So this was probably the hardest part since I had to remove the handle, wrap the bucket, then attach the handles again (I poked small holes in the plastic where the handle would pop back in).

These were the thank you tags, layout from Etsy.com (with minor tweaks).

And finally here are the finished loot bags! So happy with how they turned out. Cost for each giveaway came out to about P150 each. So I spent P4,500 total for 30 pieces.

Oh, and just to share, I was also stressed about the number of kids that would come since I didn't want to run short of giveaways! We invited all her classmates and of course, hardly anyone RSVP'd lol. Good thing 30 was a good peg since I just had about 6 giveaways left over. ;p

Anyway, will be sharing more from my daughter's party soon!

Hannah Jeter Shows Off Baby Belly

Buckle up! The bump is here! Hannah Jeter's baby bump has popped!

It only took one day after the pregnancy announcement for the Sports Illustrated model to debut her baby bump. Hannah Jeter shows off her bump during the recently concluded event in NYC and boy, she is glowing!

During the promotion of the latest Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, the fashionista was busy doing rounds with her bump on Valentine’s Day. She rocked her pregnancy style as she wore a Dorothee Schumacher coat, Giuseppe Zanotti heels, and a leather skirt to complete her get-up.

During an interview with Extra, the model openly discussed her cravings. She said she doesn’t eat meat but is now craving for beef jerky all the time. Not only that, she also likes a lot of gummies, like candy and anything salty and sweet.

When it comes to the baby’s name, Derek appears to have already picked out one for their little baby, but Hannah didn’t feel like thinking about that at all. She added: "I think I'm emotional right now, so I can't decide. I don't know what I like. I think I hate everything, so I'm not there yet. Maybe towards the end, I'll get there, but for now, I'm not brainstorming. I'm just trying to keep healthy and not sick."

That’s right, girl! The name can wait ‘til you’re ready for one. No biggie! Congratulations to Hannah and Derek!

Silantro Fil-Mex Cantina in Alabang

Whenever we go to Alabang Town Center and pass by Silantro (on the way to the basement parking of Metro), I notice the place is usually full. We've been curious to try this place for quite some time now and wasn't so lucky when we tried to eat there for lunch. So one time we got to ATC at around 5pm, we decided to have merienda/early dinner while there were still available seats.

Anyway, Silantro is located in the corporate center building beside Alabang Town Center, and is also right across from Molito. Like I said, we were there on a weekday afternoon, and even then the place started to fill up after we came in.

We were pleasantly surprised that the prices of their food and drinks were very budget-friendly.

And even more surprised when the food came and we saw how generous the servings were. Super sulit! Everyone around us had an order of Beef Nachos so we had to get this too. Definitely one of their best sellers for a reason. Soooo good and a must try if you eat here!

Beef Nachos P180

The Silantro's Quesadilla had chicken, mushrooms, and an insane amount of cheese! Actually too much cheese nga, medyo nakakaumay na siya after a while. Definitely for sharing.

Silantro's Quesadilla P160

Hubby also ordered 2 Ligero Tacos, with a single choice of meat. He got oxtail and lengua which were both good as well.

Ligero Taco (Oxtail & Lengua) P75 each

These were their sauces which were refillable. I forget the flavors, but I just kept dipping in the middle white one. The one on the left was the spicy one ata.

Hubby had beer so I got a mojito. Not bad for just P90!

Mojito P90

Anyway, food was great and super affordable. One of our new favorites in ATC. Will definitely be back for more!

A 7th Birthday Party in McDonald's

To be honest, I already had visions of my daughter's 7th birthday party when she was still a baby, since it is a big deal here in the Philippines. I mean, I remember my 7th birthday was held in Manila Polo Club and my mom even got Lou Hilario as the magician. Well, I had dreams of throwing my own daughter a fashion themed party (with a runway) and going all out with decorations and stuff. But as the years went by, I realized that spending hundreds of thousands of pesos for a few hours just isn't worth it for me anymore. I believe you can create memories even with a simple celebration. Pero if you have the budget, go for it haha! But seriously, I think more parents are choosing to be practical nowadays and just going on a family trip or something. And when I asked my daughter about it, I was surprised when she said she would rather get her own room than have a party!

See, she currently shares a room with her brother, but of course we knew they would need their own space when they got older. So we figured it would really be the perfect gift for her. Instead of spending all that money for a party, we would just use the budget to fix up one one the rooms in the house. Plus, she really wanted a loft bed too. We already ordered one and I can't wait to see everything set up!

Anyway, I still wanted her to have a party since she wanted to celebrate with her friends and classmates. So we chose to just have it at McDonald's! Besides, I think everyone should have a McDo party at least once in their lives right? :)

Anyway, if you're not familiar with McDo's packages, you just have to pay for a party fee depending on the theme you choose. P2,000 for Ronald and the Gang, or P3,000 for their special themes like Adventure Time, Ben 10, or Winx Club. Then, you just pay for the food multiplied by the number of your guests. That's it!

They already have Food Mixes in their flyer (ranging from P155, P180, or P195 per person), but these come with loot bags or Happy Meal Toys. If you want it cheaper, you can order ala carte, based on store prices which is what I did.

So I got the Chicken and Spaghetti meal with drink (P109), then I added french fries (P33) and a hot fudge sundae (P29). My total per guest was P171, which is cheaper than the P180 cost for Food Mix 2 (Chicken & Spaghetti meal). This is better since you get to completely customize your meal.

I didn't want to be constrained with McDonald's existing themes, so my daughter and I decided on a rainbow art theme since she loves drawing. I just got the standard Ronald and the Gang theme and then did my own invites.

There are 2 party rooms at the Alabang Town Center branch and the bigger one can fit 60 - 100 guests. For the computation of the contract, I just said 60 guests (since that's the minimum) and then figured I'll just add food on the day of the party if needed.

In booking the party date, you just need to pay for the theme (P2k or P3k), then the balance of the food bill on the day of the party na.

I also got the first available time slot since I think it's harder if may nauna sayo na party. Kasi they might extend then you have no time to prepare. Especially since the party time is 1.5 hours lang and ang bilis ng turnover. My time slot was really 11am to 12:30pm, but of course I placed 10:30am sa invite so people won't be late (pero madami pa din dumating past 11am lol!).

McDonald's already has existing decors, like balloons and party hats. But I couldn't help myself, I still made these paper flower centerpieces and added coloring materials to each table. It's the inner DIY goddess in me haha! Kung pwede lang idecorate ko ang buong party room I think I would have lol! ;p

McDonald's also had prizes and giveaways:

But I still added some more so the kids would have plenty to take home.

And of course, my art themed giveaways which you can read more about HERE.

You can also get a cake from McDo, but I said I'll just order somewhere else. They allow it, but you won't be able to serve the cake, it's for picture taking purposes only.

I got the cake from Baked Twinkles for only P2,500. I just sent her my peg and she executed it wonderfully! The cake tasted super yummy too (choco banana flavor). We didn't want to cut it since it was so cute!

In the McDo Alabang Town Center branch, there were these flyers from RED Event Management offering photobooth and face painting services. I decided to get the face painting since it was only P2,000. They were very easy to talk to and I paid in full on the day of the party na.

And the artist was so good! I was amazed with all the designs I saw on the kids' arms and faces. Super sulit!
.

I didn't get a photographer anymore since the party was just short with a few guests. I just used my own camera to take pictures and video.

They also have a promo of free items depending on your food bill. We got a free moon chair since my total food bill was about P11,000. And we also got a bobblehead gift set since our party theme was Ronald and the Gang (you don't get this with the other themes).

Oh, and I estimated 60 guests right? Well I just needed to add 5 more meals during the party. Buti na lang my estimate was correct and I didn't have any excess food.

Total food bill was P11,114 + party fee of P2,000 = P13,114

And I computed all the other stuff like the cake, giveaways, invites, her party outfit (I got her dress from SM, Modern Princess brand), even her pre-birthday photoshoot (which I have yet to post about) etc. So the total I spent for this entire party was about P25,000.

free moon chair plus birthday gift

Anyway, happy 7th birthday to our baby girl. Time really flew by so fast, before I know it 18 na siya lol! Let's see if she'll have a debut naman... haha! ;p

DIY Tissue Paper Flowers

Remember my daughter's birthday party in McDonald's? Well, I mentioned in that post how they already have existing party decors but I still wanted to add a little something. My husband was saying I was just making my life more difficult haha! But come on, DIY makes me happy! If I could have decorated the whole McDonald's, I think I would lol. Since my daughter's theme was rainbow colors, I decided to make these paper flowers as centerpieces for the tables.

Anyway, I bought rainbow colored crepe paper at National Bookstore. Actually, I originally bought these to make a paper tassel bunting for her pictorial, but I had a lot left over so that's when I decided to make the flowers.

P10.50 each

I just folded them in half and cut them into squares. These were about 10"x10".

I chose 4 different colors per flower.

Stack the sheets and fold like an accordion. My folds were about an inch thick.

Fold it in half.

Tie a piece of string around the center fold. Then cut the edges into a rounded shape.

Fan the flower out.

Then carefully pull each layer apart from each other towards the center.

Hold the flower at the base where the yarn is and don't be afraid to fluff the paper to fill in the gaps. They actually look like smaller versions of the paper pompoms I did years ago (which I also made for my daughter's 2nd birthday!).

I then mixed and matched all the other colors so the flowers would all look different.

I then found these rainbow colored cups at SM grocery which I used as the "vase" for my flowers. These were less than P80 for 25 pieces. I only ended up using 15.

I then placed each flower in the cup. Again, don't be afraid to arrange and fluff out the "petals" more if needed, just be careful not to rip it.

Here are all my flowers! Don't they look super cute? I love how they turned out!

Here's how they looked like at the party:

I also used the same rainbow colored cups to hold crayons for the coloring sheets I provided.

I think these would look great in any party, especially since they're super cheap and easy to do. You can even attach "stems" using floral wire and put them in real vases for a more formal occassion. :)

Room renovation part 1

All my daughter wanted for her 7th birthday was a loft bed and her own room. She fell in love with the Svarta loft bed from Ikea, so we ended up ordering this from Mobler last November. It's still not here yet, so I'm getting a bit impatient na haha! But for the room, she currently shares one with her brother (see their room HERE and HERE). But of course we knew they would need their own space when they got older.

One of the rooms we have is currently a guest room/storage room. But the layout just isn't right for the loft bed. What I wanted to do was remove the existing closet since I think the loft bed would fit better on that side of the room.

I was first thinking of hiring an interior designer, but then I figured I just needed a carpenter to execute what I wanted. And of course, para tipid din. I just searched online for pegs of closet layouts so the carpenter could copy it.

Getting started! Feeling nasa HGTV show lang lol! ;p

Closet removed! We saved the doors and other wood so we could use it for other projects. They were actually able to make a new cabinet out of it for our yaya's room. :)

New closet starting to take shape.

Drawers are painted and polished:

The wall is smoothened out, ready for painting:

Since the closet was removed, they had to fix the flooring from where the cabinets used to be. The one inside the red area is the new flooring. They would then varnish the entire floor after so the color would match.

I asked for sliding doors for the new closet since it will also be a space saver.

It took them 2 weeks to finish everything. I didn't know ganun pala kahirap gumawa ng customized cabinets. And my gosh, the dust and smell when they were constructing everything! They also removed the old aircon and sealed the hole where it used to be (we'll get an inverter na lang) plus they also repainted the walls. Anyway, can't wait to show you the finished room when the bed arrives and everything. Still have to buy a couple more furniture like a desk (thinking of having this customized as well) and maybe a bookshelf. I'm also thinking if a teepee will fit? We'll just have to wait and see! :)

L.O.L. Surprise Dolls (plus the kids' new YouTube channel!)

My daughter told me last December that what she wanted for Christmas was these L.O.L. Surprise Dolls she saw on YouTube. It was the first time I had ever heard of these dolls and it was so funny when she was explaining to me how they worked. She kept saying it was 7 layers of surprise like a blind bag, and I was like how would it all fit inside?!

Anyway, I ended up watching an unboxing video on YouTube and I was "surprised" (pun intended) how cute these toys were! I mean, if your kids love Kinder Eggs or blind bags, these are perfect for them! I immediately asked everyone I knew who was in the US that time to look for one. But these L.O.L. dolls only came out last December, so it was practically sold out everywhere especially since it was the Christmas season.

My mom was in the States that time too and luckily she was able to find some in Target right before coming home. She said she literally got the last 5 balls out of 500 that were just delivered. Wild! Anyway, my daughter finally got them on her birthday last February so she was so happy. Well, the good news is that I just saw these being sold in Toys R Us for P500 a few weeks ago. They aren't that popular here yet I guess, maybe since it's just new or coz it is a bit expensive.

Anyway, you get 7 layers of fun with every L.O.L. Surprise doll! As you unwrap the ball you'll reveal a new mystery, hinting at which L.O.L. Surprise doll you're going to get.

Personally, I find it so genius how they were able to think of this. Unboxing videos are so popular nowadays, and kids love the element of surprise with blind bags. And that's just for 1 toy. Here, they were able to find a way to unbox 7 times! Here's what you get with each layer:

1st layer - secret message sticker that describes the personality of the doll
2nd layer - sticker that comes with the four possible things the doll can do: cry, pee, change color, or spit.
3rd layer - bottle
4th layer - shoes
5th layer -  outfit
6th layer - accessory
7th layer - doll

And that's not all! Feed your baby for an additional water surprise: she might cry, spit, tinkle. Or bathe her in cold water to see if color changes. Here are the different dolls to collect:

Well, my kids love watching unboxing videos on YouTube like DCTC Toy Channel, HobbyKidsTV, EvanTube, and FGTeeV. And I know I'm not the only parent whose kids start talking like they're on camera whenever they open a new toy lol! "Hey guys, today were going to open (whatever toy)... blah blah blah... So let's get started!"They even ask me to record them all the time! So finally I gave in and made them a YouTube channel. They even thought of the name and everything. So presenting: KiddiePlayhouseTV! Please like and subscribe haha!

KiddiePlayhouseTV

The first video we did was my daughter opening her L.O.L. doll. I just filmed this on my phone and uploaded without any editing since I didn't know how haha. So watch it to see more of the different layers and how the toy looks like.

They were SOOOO excited seeing their video uploaded! I mean, I play their old videos on the computer or even TV, but I guess it's different when they see it on YouTube with the actual thumbnail and everything. The next video we made was my son opening his Hero Mashers. Here, I finally figured out how to edit the video using the software from my camera. So for the next L.O.L. doll video, I was now able to add music and subtitles, plus speed up some parts. Level up na! This next video is longer since we play with her other L.O.L. dolls and test what they do (if they cry, spit, tinkle or color change).

Anyway, I really have a lot of respect for YouTubers because I know it really takes a lot to film and edit a good video. My kids kept bugging me after to film them more but I'm like, give me a minute guys! One at a time. My hubby kept joking me, mamaya maging full-time vlogger na pala ako! ;p

Well, back to the L.O.L. dolls. The ball it comes in acts as a purse carrying case, doll display, bath playset and hangout playset. Here's the different dolls we got. So happy we didn't get any duplicates.

I really find them super cute, so my daughter and I love playing with them. For sure, we'll be buying more of these. Thank goodness they're now available here in Toys R Us! Anyway, hope you can check out their YouTube channel KiddiePlayhouseTV and support them by liking their videos and subscribing. There's only 3 videos so far, but I promise to help them make more this summer. :)

An Under the Sea Mermaid Party (plus supplier ratings)

I have a love hate relationship with planning and throwing parties. I love the whole creative process of putting together a theme, searching online for pegs and inspiration, and doing DIY projects. But what I hate sometimes is looking for suppliers and trying to stay on budget, without sacrificing the look you envision. Plus, hoping those suppliers deliver without leaving you disappointed.

Anyway, my brother-in-law and his family visited the Philippines last year, and part of their trip was celebrating the 2nd birthday of their daughter here in Manila. It would be the first time most of the family would get to meet Avianna, so her mom wanted to throw a big party. Of course, since they were in the States, I was the one tasked to plan and organize everything here. I was actually excited to do it since it would be like throwing a party without having to pay for anything haha! Ganon pala ang feeling ng party planner? ;p But I still felt pressured because I hoped my sister-in-law would like the suppliers I chose and everything.

Her mom wanted an Under the Sea Mermaid theme and she sent me pegs of the look she wanted and also her budget which was about P100,000. In the end, everyone had a great time at the party and my sister-in-law was happy with how it turned out. I did have some issues with some suppliers though, so I'll just share the pros and cons of each below. Take note that this was last year though, so prices and packages may have increased or changed already as of this time.

Venue: BIG PLATE
Address: 74 Presidents Avenue cor. J. Elizalde St. BF Homes Paranaque City
Telefax No.:659-1234 / 836-3832
E-mail:inquiries@bigplate.biz
Website: www.bigplate.biz/index.html

We stay in the south and most of the guests also, so we wanted to have the party somewhere in the area. My mother-in-law was the one who suggested Big Plate, which is a casual dining buffet restaurant offering Filipino cuisine. If you're from the BF Homes area, for sure you've seen this place which is located right beside Caltex along Presidents Ave. We actually pass by this place a lot, but I never knew it had a function room on the 2nd floor.

We ended up doing an ocular and the venue was just right for the amount of guests we had. And really, it was the location we were after.

We decided to have lunch there to taste the food and it was ok. Nothing special, but the food was tasty and there were a lot of choices for the price.

Here's their menu packages:
1. Eat All You Can Buffet / Drink All You Can (Standard - Complete) – P368/head
2. Eat All You Can Buffet / 1 glass drink – P 346/head
3. Eat All You Can Buffet / Drink All You Can (No Beef) – P 338/head
4. Eat All You Can Buffet / 1 glass drink (No Beef) – P 316/head
5. Eat All You Can Buffet / 1 glass drink (No Salad/No Beef/1 Appetizer/1 Pasta/1 Veggie) – P268/head

We ended up getting the P368/head package x 80 pax = P29,440 x 2% tax = P30,029. Not bad for the cost of food plus venue already. And there were a lot of food since it was the complete buffet. We had choice of 1 soup, 3 appetizers, salad, 1 pork, 1 beef, 1 chicken, 1 fish, 1 vegetable, 1 pasta, 2 rice, 1 dessert, plus drinks. Another friend actually booked her baby's baptism reception here as well after attending our party.

Styling & Food Carts: PARTY TIME PHILIPPINES
Website: www.partytimephilippines.com
Email: partytimephilippines@yahoo.com

I also used this supplier for my son's 1st birthday party and I was beyond impressed with how they styled and decorated my venue. That's why I didn't even think twice about getting them again. However, I had a few issues with them this time and I don't know if it's because I had gotten a much cheaper package compared to before. For my son's party, they were my caterer as well as my full stylist. This time, I just got their "STYRO SPECIAL PACKAGE" for P16,000 which consisted of the following:
- 50 balloon bubbles
- 10 table centerpiece with printed latex topper
- 2 pillars with 18inch mylar toppers
- Full styro backdrop rental with entrance styro

A few days before party, they email me photos of existing styro backdrops to choose from. I had actually sent images of backdrop ideas I liked months in advance, and they didn't say anything naman. May powerpoint file pa ako ng moodboard and everything. So I assumed they would make a backdrop based on the invite and pegs I sent since that's what they did with my son's party. Un pala, I could only choose from their old ones. I just wished they'd emailed me earlier since maybe we could have worked out a customized one na lang (since my sister-in-law had a specific color scheme and didn't mind paying extra). Like I indicated in the powerpoint file that colors should be light blues and greens. Pero the only backdrop they had was darker and may color red pa. Parang I felt useless lang un moodboard that I did since sana when I sent the pegs, they immediately said, sorry we only have these decors to choose from. I guess that's what you get for a budget package though.

Also, good thing I went to the venue earlier to drop off the cake, prizes, giveaways, and letter standees so I was able to check out the decors. This is what the initial stage area looked like:

I was a bit confused since they completely covered half of the backdrop. I know the space was limited, but it really looked bad with everything crammed in front. I had to ask them to rearrange everything by removing the cake table (we put the cake in the dessert buffet area instead), move the prizes to the side, and just move the giveaway table somewhere else. I also had to ask them to open the lights they brought for the stage. Here's how the revised stage area looked. Doesn't it look better and more open? Now you can see the mermaid and shells in the backdrop.

I was just a bit disappointed because I had such high expectations from them. Good thing I arrived early and was able to fix it pa. I don't know, but I feel like you should still get the same quality even if you get a lower cost package from any supplier.

Btw, I also got flavored fries and Magnolia ice cream (100 servings each) from them. No complaints here, we were even able to take home the ice cream that was left over.

Letter Standees: HANDICRAFTS ATBP.
Email: order@handicraftsatbp.com
Facebook: www.facebook.com/handicrafts.atbp

I've ordered giveaways from them for my son's 1st birthday party before so I know they are very reliable. The letters I got were 3 feet tall in teal color at P550 per letter. They also charged a delivery fee of P450.

Host/Magician: CHAYNO
www.facebook.com/chayno.partyhostmagician

I would always see Chayno's name for party host recommendations. And since I haven't used him in any of my kids' parties before, I decided to book him this time.  All communication was done through Facebook and he came prepared and on time.

His Partyhost Magician Package cost P12,000 inclusive of the ff:
- 30 pcs balloontwisting
- kiddie magic show with live animal tricks like birds and rabbit
- with bubblemachine set-up and a party assistant

Sound system was c/o venue, but I think you have to pay extra if he will bring his own.

magic show

He was a fun and engaging host. The kids and adults had fun with his games and magic show.

This game with the dads was a big hit. They had to swing a ball which was tied to a string and catch it inside the mug. It was really a lot of fun and had everyone cheering and laughing!

His balloon swords and bubble machine were also a big hit with the kids.

Cake: CUPPYPUPPY
www.facebook.com/CuppyPuppybyJoannaRomero

I've been checking this supplier in Instagram for quite some time now, so I really wanted to see if her cakes looked and tasted as good as what others said.

We got the small 3-tier cake, 4",6",8" rounds x 4" high per tier, only bottom tier edible, with premium chocolate ganace filling and wrap. Cost was P8,000.

However, it said in their contract that delivery is quoted as an additional fee based on location and is only available for wedding cake orders and those requiring on site assembly. So we had to pick-up the cake at her house in Teoville East Village Paranaque (beside SM City BF). Buti na lang it was in Paranaque, because if it was in Makati or QC, I'll have to pass.

Anyway, I sent her pegs and moodboard months in advance when I booked her. But then the day before the party, she texts me at about 5pm regarding the design asking if I wanted to copy the peg I sent exactly. Well, I said not exactly the same, just similar, and maybe if they could add a mermaid tail somewhere. Anyway, here's the peg I sent on the left and here's the cake they did on the right.

Cake was very pretty and it actually tasted really good.

It is a bit pricey though, so if you're from the south and want a more affordable option (but still amazing quality) try Baked Twinkles. I just discovered her when I was planning my daughter's 7th birthday party and I super loved the cake she made for us.

Dessert Buffet: ANDAIN'S
www.facebook.com/andainscandybuffet

I found this supplier through Instagram and got their Jade Package for P9,500:
- Good for 60+
- 8 candy choices, 2 pastry choices

To be honest, their set up was very disappointing for me. I was honestly expecting a bit more based on their photos from Instagram. I mean I can do this set-up myself e!

Look naman at some of their past works on their page which made me decide to book them. Doesn't it look mas bongga? They used a lot of props and elements that I was expecting. But then, their set-up for my party was super plain.

There were under the sea elements (like the seashells and pearls) but it was very minimal. There was also no design on the skirt part of the table or the floor area. Without the signage (na may mermaid) and the cake, this dessert table is totally generic. Again, is it because I just got the lower cost package? To think 2nd to the cheapest na un P9,500 ha. Sana ako na lang gumawa if I knew it would look this way.

Another big issue for me was their male staff at the party was just wearing a sando and very underdressed! There was also a female assistant so I don't know if the guy was there as a driver or to help set up the buffet, but he was there inside the whole time of the party. And I think it really isn't professional to wear a sando to an event kahit outdoor venue pa ang party (unless beach siguro).

Bubble Show / Face Paint: GROOVE PAINT
www.facebook.com/groovepaintpartyneeds

I just found this supplier on Facebook since my sister-in-law said she really wanted a bubble show. I was surprised how affordable they were, plus their package even came with face painting!

AWESOME PACKAGE: P3,700
- Face Painting and Glitter Art
- With 2 Professional artists
- 3 Hours Unlimited
- With Rhinestones, Sequins, Body Gems, Body Glitter, Charms and Crystals accessories
- Professional Hypo Allergenic, Non Toxic, Easy To Remove Face and Body Paints
- Unlimited bubble show with tricks
- Choreographed and Giant Bubbles for Photos
- 30 pcs playable twisted balloons

Anyway, funny lang before they started the bubble show, the 2 guys started dancing, pero it seemed they didn't know the steps then hindi pa sila sabay! As in sana hindi na lang sila sumayaw lol! But other than that, the bubble show was a big hit with the kids, especially the part where you get to have your picture taken inside the bubble

The face painting was also ok, but I would have to say the one from my daughter's McDonald's party was so much better in terms of drawing. But these guys were super nice, they even accommodated my daughter when she said she wanted a butterfly painted on her face after the party ended na.

Photographer: SUGARPUFF PHOTOGRAPHY
www.facebook.com/sugarpuffphoto

I've used Sugarpuff before for a family shoot and also my son's cake smash and I'm definitely a satisfied client. All party photos in this post are from her.

Giveaways: BEACH BUCKETS

I wasn't able to go to Divisoria so I just bought beach buckets from the department store at around P150 - P200 each.

Then I just made thank you tags based on the invite.

Prizes:

Assorted items I bought on sale from toy stores and department stores.

Total cost for the party was a little over P100k, just within our budget. Ang mahal na talaga mag party today noh? I wonder how much those other parties cost with full styling in big venues with more than a hundred guests. Kaloka! Anyway, main learnings from this party are:
- even if you make moodboards and send pegs, you still have to be super specific with what you want. As in ask them to send photos in advance of what they are planning to do or samples of what they will use.
- for suppliers, I just hope they provide the same quality to their clients regardless of what package you get. Even if a client gets the cheapest package, sana the same detail and execution is given.

Anyway, I'm just happy everyone had a great time that day. The whole family had fun and you could tell even Avianna enjoyed her party. And that's the most important thing. :)

La Chinesca in BF Homes

Hubby has been craving for Mexican food quite a lot lately (check out our Silantro experience HERE.) So when a friend posted about La Chinesca, a small tacqueria in BF Homes, we immediately wanted to try it out especially after hearing a lot of good reviews about it.

La Chinesca is the brainchild of Chef Bruce Ricketts of Sensei, Mecha Uma and Ooma. This is his first Mexican restaurant and he decided to open it in Aguirre like his first restaurant, Sensei. What's funny is that hubby and I couldn't find La Chinesca for the life of us the first time we tried. We had Google Maps and everything but we couldn't see it talaga! The thing is, it's located beside Amalia's but it's so discreet we kept passing by it without knowing it was just there!

Anyway, here's what  La Chinesca looks like from the outside. I honestly thought it was part of Urban Organics on the left because it was also color black, plus they have NO SIGNAGE.

Their only sign is their logo of a Luchador on the door. That's it!

We had just picked up my son from school and we finally saw they had just opened so we knew we had to eat here na. Anyway, the inside is super small, with seats good for just 10 people. No wonder it's always full, because of the limited space as well. And when we entered, we saw my cousin there! Then after we were seated, the parents of our friend came in as well! So funny we knew everyone eating there that time lol. Ang liit ng place, lahat lami chika-chika lang ;p

But despite the small space, the place looks and feels so vibrant with all the fun and interesting posters they have on the walls.

Their open kitchen makes the space feel bigger as well.

Here's their menu, but they also have off-menu dishes and specials every week, based on seasonality and what’s available.

We ordered 3 different tacos:

Guisada De Res - stewed beef shoulder, lengua, bell pepper, rice, pinipig

P100

Carne Asada - hanging tender, esquites, Chinesca crema, salsa fresca

P110

Carnitas - achiote pork confit, bean puree, pickled onions, roasted pineapple, chicharron

P100

Here are their different sauces, ranging from mild to hot.

Loved the mixture of the flavors and everything tasted so interesting. I liked the carne asada the best, while hubby liked the carnitas. Anyway, I'm really glad so many Mexican restos are popping up here in the south. Will definitely be back to try the other food items.

My Little Mermaid

$
0
0
Since I just posted about my niece's Under the Sea party, I figured I'll share this very rare sighting of a mermaid...

Haha the mermaid tail is actually the pasalubong of my sis-in-law which she bought from this seller in Etsy.com. It is a bit pricey though, and it's more expensive as the sizes get bigger. So since we got the size 9-12, the price was $65 plus $7 shipping.

My daughter chose the color teal and it was really so pretty in person. It's a bit big for her pa, but I like it so she can wear it for years. It's open in the bottom part, so she can walk when out of the water.

So many people asked us where we got the tail when we went swimming in Palms. And little kids would point to her and say mermaid or Ariel! :)

The material is really nice, but only con is that the "scales" come off especially when it rubs on the floor of the pool or the ground. There are some shiny parts near the bottom of the tail or in the knees that got removed. Oh well, at least it's not that noticable when in the water or unless you look closely.
