Mommy & Me outfits

When I was a kid, my mom would dress us up in matching outfits. And when I had my daughter, I knew I would do the same (check out our matching dresses back in 2012 here).

I know being able to dress all matchy matchy with our kids is something we can't do forever. That's why I'm taking every opportunity now while they're still cooperative and it still looks cute hehe!

There are actually a lot of places you can buy matching outfits. I chanced upon this bazaar in Festival Mall last month that was selling these smocked dresses. Upon closer inspection, I noticed some had the same prints in the kiddie and adult sizes. And the best part, it cost only P50 for the smaller size and P100 for the adult version! What a steal! Of course, I just had to choose the nice prints (some had cartoon characters all over them) so it would look good on both of us.

Mango now also has a Mini Me collection not just for moms and daughters, but also for dads and sons. I went shopping a few days ago since they're on sale, and found this cute pair of aztec shorts in Mango Kids. As I was looking at the sizes, I noticed the Large kinda looked big enough for me, especially since the waist was garterized. And lo and behold, it did fit haha! And for just P595 for each pair of shorts!

So just a tip, if you're on the petite side, the larger sizes in kids stores could definitely fit you. And if you have boys, who says you can't dress the same too? Like these shorts I got in Gingersnaps so I could match with Skyler. This cargo pair was a size 14 for boys and I just love the flamingo print. So cute!

Twilo is also a favorite for many moms for matching dresses. They have so many cute and sophisticated designs, perfect for any occasion.

Verb Manila also has great selections, including kimonos and boho sets. And I like how they can make matching outfits for the boys as well so everyone can look coordinated. Wouldn't this look great for a family photoshoot or a party? :)

You can also check out Kiara Shoppe and Au Pair Addizione for outfits not just for you and your daughter, but for the whole family as well.

I also love shopping at ZALORA, and they have a great selection of clothing for kids. For sure you can find something cute that you and your little ones will look great in!

Hope this helps you when shopping for you and your kids. If you have other suggestions where to get Mommy and Me outfits, just leave a comment below. :)

Crate & Barrel (SM Aura)

I got a chance to finally check out American retail brand and home furnishing store Crate & Barrel earlier this month at their latest branch in SM Aura. The one in SM Megamall has been open since November last year.

SM Aura branch

The store was huge and it was divided into the different home sections - kitchen, dining, bedroom, living room, entertaining. I believe it was the Spring 2015 collection on display when I was there. Here's just some of the items that caught my eye.

2-Tier Server - P2,299White Market Bowl - P909Mini Cupcake Papers (set of 96) - P299Different colored cupcake pedestals - P139 each
cute tomato printed bowls
Noodle/Soup Bowls with chopsticks - P289 each
love the print on these napkins - P199 each
Yellow tray (which also comes in different colors) - P1,379
Blue pitchers (top shelf) - P1,369
different kinds of chairs to choose from
living room vignette
61x91cm Rug - P829
the couches all look so plush and comfy
I want this dining set but waaay out of my budget (about P100k+!) ;p
Throw Pillows from P1,089 to P2,069
more accessories and decorative items
Candles ranging from P139 to P579
Those wicker baskets were P2,359 each
Tuscan inspired bridal vignette in partnership with Bridal Pod
Cute beer coasters (set of 12) for P309
Set of 6 beer sampler plates P1,079
Wine charms for about P650
cute gift ideas
I can't resist a cute owl

Overall, it was a bit expensive for me considering the quality you can get in SM and Landmark department stores nowadays, Like I wouldn't spend P1k for a throw pillow cover here when I can get it for P100 at Landmark. And I'm sure you can find much cheaper alternatives for generic items like candles, placemats, table napkins, glasses, etc elsewhere. For decorative and ceramic pieces like plates and bowls, Landmark and Dapitan are good sources for a fraction of the cost.

I would consider buying the cute novelty items like the beer coasters and beer sampler plates (my hubby would love those). And they have lots of nice stuff for gifts or accent pieces around the home. But I guess really up to you what items you want to splurge or save on.

I'm just glad more stores from abroad are now here in Manila like Pottery Barn and West Elm. At least there are now more choices and options when shopping for the home. Now only if they can bring Ikea and Target here! ;p

After, Kryz Uy, one of the top bloggers in the country today, gave a talk on improving your blog content. She shared that being a blogger is not as easy as you might think. It's not all about fun and parties and being glamorous all the time. Having a successful blog is a product of hard work and is mostly a 1 person job - you're the photographer, the stylist, the writer, the editor all rolled into one. She gave great tips that were really informative and I'll share some of the things she talked about.

- Find a need and fill it
Let's say you're looking for an article or a tutorial about something and can't find it online. Why not make your own blog post about it? This way, other people who are searching for the same thing will be directed to your site.

- Do something NEW and OWN IT
Try to differentiate yourself from all the bloggers out there posting the same content as you. Let's say you're a fashion blogger. We all know there are hundreds of bloggers who post their OOTDs online. But if you like working out, then why not make your blog about fashion and fitness combined? Especially if you know there aren't many people posting about this yet. Be original.

- Be relevant, Be current
Know what's trending and what people want to know about. Blog regularly. If you're invited to an event, post about it as soon as you can when people are still interested about it. Listen to your readers. Do they want more pictures and less words? Do they prefer a particular layout of your blog, like a Read More function? Make sure to be on top of what's new online and in the blogging scene.

- Use Hashtags and Geo tags
Use your own hashtags to make it easier to group your photos together. For example, Kryz uses #thirstythoughteats for food posts, #thirstythoughttravels for her trips, #thirstythoughtfitness for her workouts and so on. But remember not to go overboard with your hashtags para hindi naman OA. ;p

- Be yourself cause no one can do that better than you
Post about what makes you happy and what you're interested in. If you just keep copying others, then people won't patronize your blog because they'll see right through you. Most importantly, respect your readers.

Kryz Uy

Kryz also shared some tips on taking better Instagram photos. I was so interested in this because I'm constantly in awe of how some people have such gorgeous IG feeds! Like they can take a photo of just anything and make it look good. Here's some tricks she shared to help us Instagram challenged people. ;p

Elements - Add flowers, accessories, or whatever decor you have to make the photo look more full

Effortless - Make the photo look "effortless" or natural but in reality, everything is perfectly placed. For example, a "what's in my bag" pic where every product is clearly shown.

Half Cut - More commonly used in food shots, especially if you have a messy table. Just zoom in on one area to hide the unwanted parts.

Focus - Use focus to add more depth to your photos.

Space - Usually, we take pics by putting the everything in the center. But why not make it more interesting by showing more of the floor or wall area and just putting the subject in the corner?

Colors - If you have a lot of elements that you want to take a photo of, having a similar color scheme or focusing on 1 to 2 colors makes the pic more cohesive.

Live - Kryz shares that her followers love it when she posts a "live" pic of something she is doing at that very moment especially when traveling.

Patterns - Make use of patterns you see around you like stairs or floors.

Light Play - Using natural light is best when taking photos but if it's really dark, then try lighting your shot with your cellphone or something so it won't look grainy.

Point of View - Let's say you're doing an activity like ziplining. Taking the photo from your point of view which shows where you're currently at and what you're doing is more exciting than just taking a photo of your surroundings. It makes your followers feel like they are doing the activity right there with you.

Sunset - Who doesn't love a sunset shot? And it always manages to looks nice no matter from what angle.

Upside Down - When all else fails and you don't know how to make your photo more interesting, why not try turning it upside down for a different perspective?

Lastly, Florian Holm, the Chief Marketing Officer of Lazada Philippines talked to us about being part of Lazada's Affiliate Marketing Program. I know a lot of people want to know how to make more money out of their blogs. By signing up, you can stand to earn up to 10% commission on sales made from Lazada! Not a bad deal right?

HOW IT WORKS

Anyway, it was really a very fruitful afternoon where I was able to learn a lot and also meet fellow bloggers. Plus, I was able to take home all these goodies!

With the convenience that online shopping brings, and the low prices that the Lazada items have, there is no better place for you to shop your items online. And if you want to learn more and be part of Lazada's Affiliate Program, just visit Lazada.com.ph or like their Facebook Page at www.facebook.com/lazadaaffiliateprogram.ph.

Hubby and I went out for dessert one night and wound up at Paume's Pastry House in Presidents Ave, BF. This cafe is fairly new, having just opened earlier this year. And judging from the outside, the place already looks bright and inviting.

The inside looks even better with a Parisian inspired theme. I love the wooden floors and furniture which made the place feel very homey and inviting.

I love this cute kiddie area in one corner of the cafe! As a mom, I really appreciate places like this that can entertain the kids so the parents can eat in peace. ;p

love all the Paris decors

At first, we thought they only served cakes and pastries. So we were pleasantly surprised to find out they had a wide array of food choices from pastas, sandwiches, and even rice meals. And the prices were very reasonable too!

In the end, we just got some sweets and tea. And I love how they plate the desserts which make it look even more appetizing and special. And more sosyal, considering the price ha! ;p

We really enjoyed our visit, especially since they also have free wi-fi. Definitely a nice place to just hang and relax while enjoying good food and drinks. Will definitely be back to try their main dishes soon. :)

Crafternoons: Napkin Decoupage with HEISL

$

I was invited by Patty and Michelle, the ladies behind Crafternoons, to a preview class to learn all about decoupage. For those not familiar, decoupage is the art of decorating an object by gluing paper cutouts onto it.

What made this extra special was that we weren't using just any ordinary paper. Our teacher Ingrid, who is the owner of HEISL, uses paper napkins imported from Europe in all her handcrafted creations!

Ingrid at work

There are so many items you can decoupage including wallets, trays, coasters, tissue box holders, notebooks, and so on! For our class that day, we made passport holders.

This is the crafting kit from Heisl. It includes the special decoupage glue, varnish, and a brush.

The hard part was probably choosing which paper napkin to use. As you can see, there were so many gorgeous designs. What's special about these European napkins is that they're very durable especially when gluing. Ingrid shared that she has tried other local paper napkins (like those which can be found in Landmark) and they rip easily.

Now the fun part! I admit it was intimidating at first since this was our first time doing this. But what's nice about decoupage is that it's a very forgiving craft. Even if you make a mistake or rip something, it won't really be that noticeable in the final product. And the all the gluing and brushing of the varnish was so therapeutic and addicting haha! I could do it all day! ;p

Check out what I made! Not bad for a first-timer right? And everyone else's work was equally as nice. I couldn't stop touching and looking at it after. I just couldn't believe I made this out of a paper napkin! :)

If you're interested and would want to take this class too, the next workshop is scheduled on JULY 18 in Draft, Alabang. This is really a fun activity which I'm sure anyone interested in arts & crafts or DIY will enjoy. You can leave a comment below or email me if you'd like to join so I can forward more details or add you to the Crafternoons FB group (where you can also join other future workshops). So come on and join, it'll be fun I promise! :)

Our little Skyler just turned a year and a half year old. How time flies! So to celebrate this milestone, I'm sharing pictures from our cake smash session with Sugarpuff Photography after Sky's 1st birthday. Cake is from Shortcrust btw. Enjoy! :)

An afternoon at Manila Ocean Park

After our staycation at the Manila Hotel, we decided to go to Manila Ocean Park. The first time we were here was in 2011 and we only brought Miley with us since Sabe was just a few months old. This time, I was excited to experience it with all my kids. :)

I always see lots of deals in group buying sites but we only wanted to see the Oceanarium and the Jellies. So I didn't want to get the package with all the attractions kasi sayang lang. However, when we got to the ticket counter, we were told that we couldn't buy tickets for the individual attractions and had to choose among their current packages. Plus, prices were the same for all regardless if child or senior citizen kasi naka-promo na daw un packages nila.

ticket counter

In the end, we got the cheapest one, the "Deep Sea Rush" for P580 per person. Skyler was free pa since he was below the height requirement. The 6 attractions included were:
- Oceanarium
- Back of the House
- Jellies Exhibit
- Sea Lion Show
- Sharks & Rays Dry Encounter
- Symphony Evening Show

attraction schedules
map
entrance

The first thing we noticed when we got inside the building was how HOT it was! Parang walang aircon! We did the Oceanarium first and were momentarily distracted by our excitement with seeing all the fish. But again, ang INIT even in the aquarium and tunnel parts! I think hindi talaga kaya ng aircon nila un amount of people and also the summer weather (this was end of May). I don't know if it gets cooler during the rainy season, but I think they should really fix this problem kasi summer is when more people visit them right? Thank goodness we were dressed lightly, with the kids in sandos and shorts. You could see so many people fanning themselves and complaining of how hot it was. It really was super draining!

Right after the Oceanarium, there was this Free Coloring Activity area. The kids wanted to color so we took this time to sit here and take a break. Again, I cannot stress how HOT it was, para na kaming naligo with our sweat. I think it was cooler pa outside in the open air than inside the Oceanarium.

The next activity we did was the Back of the House. I was honestly expecting a whole lot more, so I was disappointed that it was literally just what the name said - as in peek lang talaga siya of the back part with all the tanks and water systems. I was thinking kasi may tour guide or something to explain the different areas but there was none. So we just walked through the whole thing in about 5 minutes.

yan lang yan promise!

After we exited the Back of the House, we passed through more attractions like this area for the deep sea encounter. I don't think I'll ever do this though. ;p

This is the fish spa area...

We also passed by Trails of Antartica and thank goodness, it was a little bit colder in this part (dapat lang naman noh haha!). There were a lot of information and trivia on the walls which was interesting to read. Too bad the penguins were not included in our ticket, but maybe next time we can see them.

The gift shop was right next to this attraction and siyempre, you really had to pass through to exit. The kids wanted to buy a lot of stuff as usual, but we just got a magnet and some snacks.

We also saw Yexel's Museum which I want to visit next time as well. I believe this has a separate ticket from the Oceanarium though.

The Jellies Exhibit was next for us, and I was excited about this because I really enjoyed this attraction the last time we went. Again, we were mesmerized with all jellyfish and the changing colors in their water tanks. So pretty!

I love this room with all the mirrors which makes it look like an endless number of jellyfish tanks!

Next stop was the Sharks and Rays Dry Encounter since the last entry for this was quite early at 4pm. Kwento again, the escalator going to the ground floor was not working and they didn't even have an elevator! Such a hassle for those with strollers like us. And this attraction was located all the way down outside the actual park. As in the entrance was located before the ticket counter area pa, so lalabas ka pa talaga all the way sa may road. Haaay kapagod!

There was a long line going in since they limit the amount of people that enters per batch so that there's enough space din for everyone. Once inside, you just go near the water and there's someone holding the ray so you can touch it up close. They're very strict though with the NO PERSONAL PHOTOS rule, meaning if you're touching the ray, you can't take a photo/selfie with it. You need to have someone from their end take it and of course pay for your photo. But of course, ang dami din sumisimple, pero once they see you, they'll really call you out.

The next attraction was the Sea Lion Show which was at 5pm. We were done with the Sharks and Rays Dry Encounter rather quickly since it was also so hot and once you touch them, pretty much ok ka na rin. So we had a good hour to wait for the Sea Lion Show. We ended up having merienda at North Park which is in the main lobby since we wanted to sit down somewhere cool and rest as well. Of course, wala talagang mga seating areas around the park so you'll really be forced to eat somewhere lol!

When we went to Ocean Park a few years ago, the Sea Lion Show was held in a small area lang. So I was surprised that the new venue, called the Aquatica, was so much bigger and nicer! Anyway, the show was pretty much the same as I remembered it. The kids enjoyed it as well. :)

After the show, we had more than an hour to wait for the last attraction, the Symphony Evening Show which was at 6:30pm. Again, we ended up in a coffee shop so we could wait comfortably with the kids. We honestly wanted to go home na since we were all so tired but sayang naman since we were here na rin. The show was in the same location as the Sea Lion Show and it was very nice naman. The kids were all so sleepy na by this time though, so super cranky na sila and scared easily with the sounds and effects. If you're booked at Hotel H20, I think you can have a nice view of the show from your room if you're facing the theater.

Bottomline, the attractions were nice, but it was the heat that really got to us and all that waiting in between shows. We got to Ocean Park at 1:30pm and left at 7pm. But if we could do everything tuloy-tuloy, I think we'd be done in 2 hours max. I mean how long can you actually stay inside the Oceanarium dba? Hindi din naman siya ganun kalaki. I'm thinking what more if you went in the morning at 10am, imagine you'll have to wait pa all the way until 6:30 for the Symphony Evening Show! Ang tagal! Buti pa if malamig and you'll be comfortable. But you'll just end up spending extra for food para lang you can have a place to wait and pass the time (which is how they designed it to be I'm sure).

Well, we probably won't be back here for a long time, and definitely not during the summer months na talaga. Unless I know for sure na malamig na ang aircon nila! I'm very interested in visiting Yexel's Museum though, so I'll be sure to post about it when we do. :)

You can check their website or Facebook page for their current packages and promos.

Erwin's Gastrobar in City of Dreams Manila

$

The restaurants in City of Dreams Manila are all quite high-end, plus they don't have a food court. They have a global line-up of restaurants like Nobu (Japanese), APU (Filipino), Prego (Italian), O Kitchen (Korean), Crystal Dragon (Chinese), Red Ginger (Asian), Noodl8 (Asian) but probably the most family-friendly one in my opinion is Erwin's Gastrobar which serves casual American food like burgers, fries, sandwiches, and chicken.

Naturally, we ate here with the whole fam when we brought the kids to DreamPlay.

I really love nicely drawn chalkboards in restos, like this
bar
their menu with appetizers, salad, burgers, sandwiches, pasta, dessert
craft beer and cocktails

Here's what we ordered:

Quesadilla
roasted peppers, bacon, jalapenos, black pepper cheddar and mozzarella in a toasted tortilla
P275
Fish Fingers
homemade with caper mayo, salad and fries
P325
Beef Knuckle Bolognese
served with linguine, goat cheese and chestnut mushrooms
P580
Beer Bites Platter
fries, onion rings, chicken wings, mini bratwurst and cheesy bread
P675
cheesy bread and chicken wings
fries, mini bratwurst, onion rings

Servings were good for sharing and yummy too, And quite affordable considering the other food choices around which were definitely pricier. We enjoyed our lunch and I'm guessing we'll probably eat here again with the kids when we go back to City of Dreams. :)

Kracie Popin' Cookin' Bento Making Kit

Kracie Popin' Cookin' is a series of Japanese Do-It-Yourself candy making kits using just powder and water. I first encountered this when I saw my daughter watching a tutorial video on YouTube. It seemed so fun to do so when I saw some in a local bazaar, I just had to buy her one!

We got the Bento making kit and if I remember correctly I think it cost about P240. You can also buy kits like this from Instagram sellers like @diyfun_ph.

the contents of the kit with the different flavored powders

There were English instructions but I wanted to know if we were really doing it correctly. So I looked for the tutorial video on YouTube hehe. I remembered my daughter watching this countless times before, so it was such a treat making it for real this time. Plus, it was so much easier doing it with the video demo. ;p

instructions
video tutorial (thank goodness for YouTube!)

It was really easy to do since all the powder sachets are pre-measured already. So all you needed to do was put them in the assigned container and add the specified amount of water.

Then just mix and watch the liquid turn into gel!

This part is where you put the "sesame" powder for the riceball and panda face.

This is the spaghetti mixture:

The you just put the paste into the plastic bag and cut off the tip to make a piping bag. Then squeeze out your noodles!

Ta-da! What do you think of our creation? The noodles definitely need more work but everything looks really good. And for the flavors, the riceball is soda, the sausage is strawberry, the fried chicken is orange, the broccoli is muscat, the sesame and spaghetti are grape, and the eggroll is lemon. But to be honest, we didn't eat this since it looked too cute! We just let it be and it turned rock hard after a few days hehe. ;p

After doing this, I definitely recommend this activity not just for kids but for the whole family! :)

Tatsunoko Japanese Restaurant, BF Homes

While driving along El Grande Street in BF one time, hubby pointed to this seemingly rundown looking house and said that it was a famous Japanese resto in the area which he wanted to try. The place itself looked old and shabby and it honestly didn't look very inviting at all. So I said next time lang.

Fast forward later, we were on our way to SM BF for lunch with the kids and passed by this street again. Hubby said he really wanted to eat here since he was craving for Japanese so I said fine, sige na nga!

Again, the place looked really dubious from the outside. It looked like an abandoned house, but there were so many cars parked outside. And well, there was an OPEN sign on the door so I guess it must really be a restaurant haha. ;p

I actually did research after we ate here and found out that this place was previously known as Bento-ya and has been in the business for more than 20 years. And they always seem to land in the top places to eat in Paranaque or the South.

I was surprised when we entered and the place was really full (this was lunch on a weekday). The inside looks only slightly better than the outside in my opinion. The place definitely needs a lot of improvement. But if customers keep coming back, then I guess there's really no reason for them to change anything right? ;p

parang carinderia lang ang peg
maybe the wallpaper will peel itself?
There was aircon, but the place was still kinda hot. Good thing there were electric fans.

They have a very extensive menu which you can check out HERE. But I took some pics just to show you how affordable everything was. Nothing over P200 here, wow!

sushi for as low as P35!

There were some items that were not available though. We ordered about a couple of things including tempura and out of stock daw. Anyway, here's what we got:

Gyoza - P90
Tonkatsu - P125
Chicken - P125
Chicken Yakitori with Onion Leeks - P35 each stick
Fried Rice - P90
Gohan - P45

Final thoughts:

- If you're a sucker for ambiance or maybe want to go on a romantic date, then I think this isn't the place for you. Take note, I even saw a cat inside (pet naman ata nila). The place really looks like its been around for decades.

- Food was really good and with the price, you surely can't go wrong. Servings are generous too. Our bill was less than P1k and I'm sure it will cost double or more if we ordered the same items in another restaurant. Your money will go a long, long way here compared with the other commercialized Japanese restos.

- Our orders came pretty quick which was fortunate since there was a table near us who we heard complaining. They were about 7 people and based on what I heard, half of their orders were taking so long. They were almost done eating and after a while, they couldn't wait any more and just asked for their food to be wrapped up for take-out. Then there was a correction with their bill which also took forever! The mom was so upset she was already standing by the kitchen asking for her change. After a while she just said forget it and left. I don't know if this always happens but with the amount of customers during our visit, maybe they should consider adding more staff? We had to follow up our bill a couple of times too, but at least it wasn't our food.

- I read in one review that you could identify an authentic Japanese restaurant if there are actually Japanese people eating there. And during our visit, there were a couple of Japanese customers, so it's a check!

Our family took a quick overnight stay at Holiday Inn in Clark last June since hubby was participating in a triathlon race in Subic. The last time I stayed here was when I was in high school pa ata, so it's been a very long time ago!

Located in Pampanga, Holiday Inn Clark is situated in the Mimosa Leisure Estate. Getting there, I noticed there are now more restaurants near the area and also SM mall. So very convenient to eat out or even buy fast food for the kids.

the restaurant where we had breakfast is the one behind Sabe

What I loved is that they gave the kids these super cute activity kits with crayons, stickers, and a coloring book. Definitely kept them busy and entertained. :)

You can also book a garden villa for larger groups or families, but we just chose to stay in the hotel itself. We got a Deluxe Room with 2 Double Beds. The room was pretty much the same as I remembered when I stayed here all those years ago. It was spacious enough, but I have to say the beds and pillows were the highlight of the room. They were super soft and fluffy! And even if they were just a double, hubby and I could fit comfortably in one bed with Skyler in between us. They also had free wi-fi with a strong signal.

Probably my only complaint was that the bathroom was a bit dated. They had a mini ref and ironing board in the closet as well.

We had free breakfast for 2 and I really enjoyed the food they had.

Of course, the bast part was probably the pool. We had so much fun swimming here!

The kiddie pool is just 2 feet deep and had a fountain which the kids loved. They didn't want to leave na haha! There's also a small bridge (it's the one behind the fountain in the pic) which the kids loved crossing to get to the bigger pool. ;p

There was also a children's playroom in the hotel but the kids were only able to play here for a short while since we spent most of the time in the pool.

It was a good trip for us and I'll definitely stay here again if ever we come back to Clark. :)

Alqueria in SM Megamall

I have a group of friends and we're all housewives so we make it a point to go out every month just to unwind. :) Last month, we agreed to head north in SM Megamall as per request of one of our friends (since we've always stayed in the south so far). I probably go to Megamall only once a year so I'm not familiar at all with the restaurants in the area. Our friend wanted to eat Spanish food so we ended up at Alqueria.

I read online that this resto was formerly known as Boqueria and is part of the SumoSam group of restaurants owned by Marvin Agustin, Ricky Laudico, and Raymund Magdaluyo. Alqueria also brought in partners Liz Uy, Mylene Dizon, Agot Isidro, and Charo Santos.

Anyway, I love the location of this place since it's on the 3rd floor of Mega Fashion Hall, near H&M!

The interiors were nicely done. We were planning to have a long lunch so we wanted a place that wasn't so crowded and had comfy seating.

I loved this tiled wall with a visual of a flamenco dancer
I also like these sayings on the walls :)
open kitchen so you can see your food being prepared

You can view the full menu HERE, but here's what we ordered:

Jamon E Queso drizzled with honey truffle
P628
Salpicao P368
Pollo Leche Fritos
Buttermilk fried chicken drizzled with honey truffle
P388
Cocido Madrileno
P668
Paella Negra
P398 (small)
Paella Valenciana
P398 (small)
ladies who lunch

BTW, their specialty is the Cochinillo, an oven-baked young (21-day old) suckling pig that is served whole and is chopped into pieces using a ceramic plate showing how tender and crispy it is. This costs a whopping P5,000 and needs to be ordered in advanced.

We had a good 4-hour lunch, just enjoying the food and each other's company. Happy with the overall experience and I'm glad I was able to try this restaurant on my rare outing to the north. ;p

Keeping memories with PhotoTrail

Back in the day, when there weren't any digital cameras yet, I already loved taking photos and made sure to have them developed and printed out. I remember buying photo albums and lovingly arranging all the pictures and inserting them in their individual sleeves. I also remember in high school when my friends and I would have to wait for the negatives from one person to the next just to have the photos recopied! lol! Now, it's so easy to take and share photos. You can just get them instantly through email, Facebook, Viber or WhatsApp!

I admit that I've hardly printed out my photos ever since digicams were born. There's just so much that I honestly can't choose which ones to print. I have so many CDs, DVDs, and so much files and folders stored in my hard drive! And I honestly want to print them out because I'm always so scared that my hard drive would crash or something!

That's why I'm happy there are now easier and more creative ways to have your photos printed online. Like PhotoTrail, a photobook for all your Instagram photos.

PhotoTrail is a convenient way to document your life’s adventures, milestones, achievements, and most cherished moments. It’s a scrapbook, album, journal rolled into an elegantly compact package. And I love all those little details in the spine where you can further personalize your book by putting a title and even your IG name.

I personally upload more photos on my Instagram account (@mrsmommyholic) and I love scrolling through my feed just to see my kids, look back on random moments or just reminisce. So I was so excited when I got my very own PhotoTrail book! It really is different having a hard copy where you can flip through each page and remember that particular point in time.

It really is a great way to organize your photos. Like you can have one book for each of your kids, countries you've visited, special occasions like birthdays, baptisms, and so on! It's also perfect as gifts to your friends and loved ones. I already know the grandparents would love having photobooks of their grandkids, right? ;p

Here are the basics below if you want to start your own PhotoTrail. If you want to know more, you may visit their website at PhotoTrail.com.ph. All the details, FAQs, instructions on how to download your IG photos, and costs are there.

So what are you waiting for? Start ordering those photobooks now so you can capture, print, and keep those memories forever. :)

Our Vacation Villa at Subic Homes

After our overnight stay at Holiday Inn Clark, we then moved to Subic for hubby's triathlon race. We got a villa at Subic Homes since that's really where hubby's team stays when they have races in the area.

The Vacation Villas at Subic Homes are American style and offer you a choice of 2, 3 or 4 bedroom houses. We got a 2 bedroom unit and each house is fully furnished with centralized airconditioning. The furniture and decor is very simple and sparse though, nothing fancy at all. Which is good if you have kids since you won't have to worry about them breaking anything hehe. ;p

living room with cable TV
dining room

The house comes with a complete kitchen with cooking and dining utensils, refrigerator/freezer, electric range, microwave oven, and rice cooker. Coffee maker and toaster are available upon request. You can make pa-deliver from nearby restaurants like Aristocrat but we just had lunch in the nearby Harbor Point Mall where we also went grocery shopping for some food and drinks. We also took out some food for dinner which we just heated in the microwave.

The rooms are very spacious and comes with pillows, beddings and towels. The house is technically for 4 people but of course we were more than that. So bring extra towels if you're a bigger group or have kids.

masters bedroom with queen sized bed
another TV in the room
guest room with 2 single beds
very spacious room with closets that the kids loved playing hide and seek in ;p

There was also a room beside the kitchen which was the maid’s or driver’s quarters. It has 1 single bed and its own simple bathroom. But what we did was just move this mattress to the other guest room in the floor as an extra bed and our yaya just slept on the couch which was very comfy (in fact, hubby wanted to sleep there lol). And since the whole house had centralized aircon, the living room was also cool so no problem at all.

I just wasn't so happy with the main bathroom since it looked a bit old na. And there wasn't any toilet paper! Hopefully they'd update this to look more modern in the future.

The kids just loved running throughout the house. I guess they felt it was like a hotel but bigger lol. There was also a barbeque grill in the backyard btw. But no wi-fi signal which was a bummer.

The Subic Homes compound is like a village with lots of residential houses and even Brent International School. Hubby kept saying we should just move here in the future so he could just bike all day! As if haha! ;p

view from across our villa

They have a pool in the clubhouse but we didn't get a chance to swim here na since we were so busy with hubby's race. And there were quite a few people too since it was a race weekend as well.

This is the clubhouse/front office where you check-in and check-out. This is also a restaurant so you can have breakfast or merienda here while swimming.

For check-out, we forgot to call 30 minutes before so we had to wait quite a bit. Ooops! And another perk is you get 10% off if you visit Treetop Adventure, Zoobic Safari or Jest Camp.

It was a super fun weekend for the whole family. This is really the first time that we've all gone to support hubby during a race and I know it really meant a lot to him. Although it was tiring waiting for him at the finish line since it was crowded and hot, the kids were so excited once they saw their daddy running at the end (well, except Skyler who as you can see below was already so fussy haha!). We'll definitely try to go on more races in the future, especially when the kids are older. Who knows, maybe they'd even participate in the kids division too! :)

Meat Depot in BF Homes

$

We decided to have dinner out one Friday night and we originally wanted to eat in The Farm for some burgers and steaks. But then we got surprised when we found out that they had moved already from their original location in Alabang Hills (they're now in Commercenter Mall, Filinvest, Alabang).

We figured we'll just wing it and just drive along Aguirre St. and see what jumps out at our tummies. And I guess it was a good thing because we ended up at Meat Depot!

Meat Depot is a wholesale and retail meat shop where you can choose your own steak and cooking style. We were lucky to get a table at once since the place was packed!

You can take your pick from a variety of pre-packaged, vacuum sealed meats:

Tapang Damulag, Skinless Longganisa, German Franks, Hungarian Sausage, Macao
longganisa from Vigan, Lucban, Alaminos, Bacon, Corned Beef, Lamb Curry
different steaks
Ox Face, Beef Liver, Goat Meat Caldereta, Squid Rings, White River Cobbler Fillet
freezer where you choose your steak

Here's how you order. Prices depend on the type of meat you choose and of course the weight. So you can end up spending P350 up to P1000 for your steak.

You can see them cooking the meats right in front of the restaurant in the open air. I guess it's good that it's done outside so it isn't smoky inside or smells like a grill.

Hubby got the Angus Beef Rib Eye and I got Grass-fed Rib Eye steak. Both steaks were big so we could have shared just one piece actually! We both got rice for our sides and mushroom gravy sauce. As you can see, the rice is a bit small so we ordered extra pa as usual. ;p

Angus Beef Rib Eye Steak
Premium Local Beef Grass-fed Rib Eye Steak

You can also buy your meats here just like in the supermarket.

Btw, they also have a sign that states they only give 5% discount to senior citizens and PWDs. But I read the explanation in their FB that the 5% discount is because Meat Depot is a retail/wholesale meat supplier. Their cooking services are actually available so the customers can try the products before taking them home. Unlike in restaurants, availing of the cooking services is optional at the Meat Depot. Products to supplement your meat - like drinks, sides, and the cooking fee ARE subject to the 20% discount because they of course do not fall under the fresh meat category.

We definitely had a good meal and will be back to try more of their steaks! Yum! :)

DIY Triangle Accent Wall

$

After I painted my kids' room blue, I knew I wanted to do something with the main wall behind their bed. It previously had an owl mural so the plain blue was just looking well a little... plain. ;p

I first saw this image on Pinterest and I really loved the simplicity yet visual impact the triangles made.

my inspiration

I knew I didn't want to paint the triangles individually since that would take too much time. So I thought why not cut it out of sticker paper? It would be so much cheaper and easier, plus I could take it off anytime I wanted without any damage to the walls! This is the sticker paper I bought from National Bookstore. I made sure to get the MATTE finish since I didn't want the triangles to be shiny.

I made each triangle to be 3" high and 3" wide. I was able to cut 14 triangles from each sticker paper sheet.

I then measured my entire wall and based from that, I was able to estimate that the triangles should be 10" apart. But the spacing could be completely up to you, and also if you want the triangles to be smaller or bigger depending on the size of your wall.

Oh, and this stencil level (from Cutting Edge Stencils) super helped me a lot to make sure my triangles were straight. If you're not familiar with this tool, you'll know if your line is straight when the bubble inside is centered between the lines. My sister-in-law sent this from the States and I just taped it to my ruler. Super helpful!!!

I just started from the top going down...

Then it was a breeze from there. I swear, this project is super easy to do! I think it just took me about 3 hours overall. :)

Btw, I didn't put stickers anymore on the back of the bed since it won't be seen naman. Sayang lang effort diba? hehe ;p

What do you think? I super love how it turned out! Easy, cheap, and beautiful - this is probably one of my favorite DIY projects ever!

Our house is featured in Real Living!!!

If you know me or have been reading this blog for quite some time now, then you know that Real Living Magazine has been a constant source of inspiration for me for many, many years. Even before I got married, I was already reading this magazine, just dreaming about the day when I would have my own home and get to decorate it.

When we finally moved into our house 3 years ago, I initially wanted to hire an interior designer. I actually inquired among several decorators whose style I liked from Real Living and even had an ocular at our home to know the costs. Well, it turns out we couldn't afford it then, but I guess it was a blessing in disguise since I was able to fully exercise my creativity and DIY skills to the maximum level.

Hubby and I bought furniture on sale and had some custom made to save on costs. I went online to find inspiration from websites like Houzz and Project Nursery. I discovered so many blogs that inspired me to do my own DIY projects (which I blogged about as well!). I discovered places like Dapitan and Uniwide which were treasure troves for budget conscious people like me.

All these things led us to have the home that we have today, a home that I'm extremely proud of. And what makes it even more special is that I didn't need an interior designer after all! Like the title of the article says, this really was my "PERSONAL PROJECT". And this just proves that you don't need to spend a lot in order to have a nice space. I think it's just a combination of inspiration, imagination, and a little bit of hard work too (hindi madali ang magpaint ng room ha!).

Before, I would just read Real Living magazine, gushing over the beautiful houses page after page. Who would have thought that I would eventually be able to see our own home inside the magazine? I swear, it really is a dream come true!

And look who else made a cameo in the article! So cute!!! :)

If you're curious how our house was chosen, it was all through Instagram. I sometimes post photos of my DIY projects and certain areas of the house and I was surprised when I found a comment from Real Living (@reallivingph) one day saying if I could email them more photos of our home, which I did. And then after a while, they emailed back saying if I would be open to have our home featured in the August issue. Umm, wait a minute let me think about it first... DUH, OF COURSE (with matching jump up and down!!!) ;p

The photoshoot happened mid-June and I have to say that I was so nervous and excited leading up to it because I just wanted everything to be perfect. If you think our house looks this good or clean all the time, well you're wrong hehe. Let's just say major clean-up mode happened 2 days before the shoot. If you have kids, you know how easy it is for a house to get filled up with toys, snacks, and so much clutter! It was stressful but also a good thing since I was forced to majorly organize too hehe. I even ended up scrubbing the walls and doors last minute to remove the kids' drawing marks! Kaloka! ;p

photoshoot in action

Anyway the shoot turned out great! They took a lot of pictures, but some unfortunately didn't make it into the magazine like the main entrance, guest room, and master bathroom. That's why I might just do a house tour series so I can post more photos of the different areas of the house. What do you think? :)

So again, thank you to the Real Living team - Tala and Dagny who directed the shoot, Mike the photographer, and Katherine who interviewed me (would you believe she was the same person who interviewed me before for Miley's feature in Smart Parenting? That interview was done over the phone though so this was the first time we actually met!).

So if you haven't yet, grab a copy of Real Living's August 2015 issue to read more about our humble abode. And if you want a chance to get featured in the magazine, don't forget to use the hashtag #instalivingph on your home photos on Instagram. Who knows, your house could be on the next issue as well. :)

Pick & Polish Nail Salon

The grand opening of Pastry Armoire was held at Pick & Polish Nail Salon in BF Homes, Paranaque. Since the event was a SPArty, I was so happy that my little girl Miley was also invited since she loves having her nails done too. And it was a great way for us to have some mother-daughter bonding time.

so excited for our date!

I already talked about all the yummy food we ate from Pastry Armoire in my previous post, like the gourmet breads, cakes, dips, ice cream, and coffee. I'm getting hungry just looking at the photo hehe! Everything was so good and you can buy their stuff from their newly opened shop located at the same building as Pick & Polish.

Anyway, I want this post to focus on the salon and the services we got. To be honest, I never go to nail salons because I just put on polish myself. It's my daughter and her lola (my mother-in-law) who love going to salons to get their nails done. In fact, my MIL even has a foot spa machine at home and they love using it all the time!

But after my visit to Pick & Polish, I think I've found a nail salon I'd actually go to. First of all, the interiors are so cute, clean, and refreshing. And their staff is super nice too. Plus, the prices are so affordable!

Left: sterilizers and UV nail colours; Right: Waxing/Massage rooms

They have so many colors to choose from! And you can tell most of the polishes are high-end brands too (Essie, Orly, OPI, Nicole by OPI, Jennifer Lynn). And I love how all the polishes were arranged on the wall too!

Oh, it was funny since I was apprehensive at first that Miley might get bored since it was after all a blogger event. But good thing there were other girls her age there too! That's Anika and Julia, daughters of Fleur and Belle. The girls were BFFs in no time! ;)

Anyway, Pick & Polish offers an array of services which includes manicures, pedicures, hand & foot spa, nail art, waxing, threading, paraffin & massage. They also have party packages in case you want to do a bridal shower or other private events (just call them for more details). For our SPArty that day, we had a foot spa and mani-pedi.

For their foot spa, you can choose among these scrubs: Milk & Honey, Lavender, Strawberry, and Peppermint (this is the one I got).

Then, on to our nails. It was so hard to choose a color since there were so many gorgeous shades!!!

In the end, I asked Miley what color to pick for my toes and she chose pink of course! I went with this dark shade with a little bit of shimmer from Nicole by OPI called "Best Pink Ever". :)

For my nails, I wanted a more neutral shade so I ended up choosing this one called "LAB4401-A" from Orly. And what was funny is that both Michelle and I actually picked the exact same color! Great minds really think alike! ;p

with my seatmate Mommy Fleur

After us, the kids were so excited to have their nails done. It was so cute how they were all together, playing and making chika! And they were so serious about the colors they chose and how it was to be applied on their nails. Like Miley had pink in one hand and yellow on the other. Then on her toes, it was alternate colors naman! Gosh, mas demanding pa sa amin lol! ;p

After, the girls didn't want to go home pa (as expected!) so I got a chance to talk and bond with some of the other bloggers who I met for the first time. It was really such a fun afternoon where we were all pampered and fed to the max! :)

with Millie, Fleur, Michelle, and Belle

And the best part of this day? Spending it with my unica hija. When I told her we were having a spa date, I asked her what she wanted to wear and all she said was "I want us to match mommy". Awww, my heart melted! After this, I promised her we'll go on more mother-daughter dates, and for sure we will be back at Pick & Polish soon. :)

Happy birthday to me!

As of yesterday, I am now officially 33 years old! My gosh, 2 years na lang, mid-30's na ako! When people ask me my age, I sometimes have to stop and think about it pa. Wait, I'm just 28 right? I wish, lol! Where did the time go??? haha!

What sucks is that the whole family is sick right now! As usual, we all got hawa from one another. So I basically spent the whole day yesterday just in bed resting. But I'm not complaining hehe! Hopefully, we all feel better soon since it's gonna be a busy week for me as well.

I posted this birthday card my daughter made in my IG. Isn't she the sweetest? She made so many drawings for me and she's getting so good writing and coloring. These things are what I really treasure. :)

We also had a family dinner during the weekend in Urban Farm and good thing we went out na when we were all feeling better pa. I have some get-togethers lined up with friends this week too, so again I can't wait to get well already!

Anyway, have so many blog posts lined up, hopefully I can publish them soon. :)
