Dusadee Thai (BF Homes)

Dusadee Thai has been around BF Homes Paranaque since early last year. What's great about this place is they serve authentic Thai food at super cheap prices, plus they're open 24 hours daily.

Their actual resto is quite small but nicely set up. But there's no air-conditioning so it could get pretty hot especially if you're eating here for lunch. I wasn't able to take photos when I went there so I just went to their FB page and grabbed some pics.

photo from Dusadee Thai's FB page

Here's a closer look at their interesting story which is displayed on the wall of the resto. Now you know why the food is really good and authentic!

from Dusadee Thai's FB page

And check out their very affordable menu. Amazing right? Although I believe this isn't updated yet since they now have more items on the menu like Tom Yum, Pork Noodle Soup, Fried Spring Rolls, and Mango Salad.

from Dusadee Thai's FB page

Anyway, I love that they have delivery (807-7777) which was perfect a couple of nights ago when we were craving for Thai food but didn't want to go out. I believe they have a minimum order of P300 though.

We ordered the Chicken and Pork Bagoong Rice Meals, which came with a generous 2 cups of rice. For those who aren't fans of bagoong rice, you can order plain rice instead. For some reason, the pork and chicken looked so similar we couldn't tell them apart when we opened the boxes. We had to cut into the meat and taste it first haha! ;p

We also ordered their Pork Noodle Soup, which was packed separately then we just mixed it when it was delivered. I just loved all the mix of flavors in this soup!

Oh, and here's the Tom Yum soup which hubby ordered on a different day (obviously different ang lighting, lunch kasi e hehe). Super love all the flavors with just the right amount of spiciness. He's addicted to this!

Anyway, I also ordered their Fried Spring Rolls which had noodles inside...

We also had their Special Thai Iced Tea for our drinks...

And finally, Mango Sticky Rice for dessert! Perfect ending for that "tanggal umay" taste.

We really enjoyed every bite of our meal! So for authentic Thai food for less, definitely check out Dusadee Thai in the BF area. :)

Hong Kong Disneyland, here we come!

One of my dreams is about to come true, and that is going to Disneyland with my kids! Well, we're actually in Hong Kong already and it's just Miley and Sabre with me and hubby. We decided to leave Skyler with our parents for now since we feel he's too young and probably won't appreciate / remember the trip anyway. We can just come back again next time in a couple of years, maybe when he's about 3 years old. :)

I'm super excited too since we'll be staying in Disneyland Hotel! I did a lot of research if we should stay here or in Hollywood Hotel (which is cheaper), but then hubby and I decided to go all out and just book here! :)

photo from HK Disneyland's website

One thing that sucked though is when I booked online, I found out later that they charged me twice! I was just randomly checking the current balance of my credit card bill when I noticed there were two line items from Hong Kong Disneyland, with slightly different amounts. I emailed them to inquire and got this reply a few days later:

This was the first time this ever happened to me while paying online and with such a large amount pa. Anyway, I was hoping they would offer me some kind of freebie for the hassle pero wala e, hehe! ;p The good news is the refund was indeed included in my latest credit card statement so I can rest easy na. The bad news is that due to currency conversion, the amount they refunded was P500 less than what was charged. Nalugi pa ako bwisit! But I don't want to dwell on that na, I just want to enjoy this trip and make magical memories!

I'm sure I'll be posting a lot of photos on Instagram (@mrsmommyholic) so follow me if you want to be updated on our trip. Anyway, I'm so excited and can't wait to see all the Disney characters! :)

Our new Panasonic Inverter refrigerator

I'm not much of a cook so our kitchen is probably the one area in our house we spent the least amount of money on when we moved in 3 years ago. All the appliances are hand-me-downs from my mom, like our oven, water dispenser, and refrigerator. We also got our microwave as a freebie when we bought our plasma TV haha! Everything looks ok and works fine anyways, so we were happy to get these for free.

Don't get me wrong, I still dream of having a gorgeous kitchen with state-of-the-art appliances someday. Maybe then I'll get motivated to cook noh? haha! ;p Anyway, like I said, our refrigerator is still in perfect condition but it is quite small. We noticed that we were having a hard time fitting everything inside the freezer after doing the grocery, especially now since I'm also storing my breastmilk there.

our old ref (with a few of our magnet collection)

So we finally decided to buy a new one when SM had a recent sale. After scoping around, we settled on the Panasonic Inverter 16 cu.ft. size. The original cost was about P39k but after all the promos and discounts, we got it for P31k.

First off, I just love the silver color which makes it look so sleek compared to our old white one. Makes our kitchen look so sosyal na hehe! And look at all that space to stick our magnets on!

We were really sold when we found out this had an Intelligent Inverter Technology which has up to 40% less energy consumption. Hopefully our electricity bill really goes down. ;p

I was a bit skeptical at first with the bottom freezer though. I was thinking the drawer type compartment might get broken easily (hopefully not). But since frozen foods are used less, the refrigerator at the top part means that  you'd have easier access to the food and beverages consumed more often.

Having the ref at the top part is really such a big difference! It's so easy to have everything at eye level and no more bending over or kneeling down to check out what's in the bottom part like before!

I also like how it has separate vegetable and chilled case, which provides indirect cooling to prevent drying and damage.

It also has anti-bacteria and deodorizing features which are a plus! Hopefully this ref will last a long time and perform like it promises. :)

Applying for my baby's passport at DFA Alabang

$

I was so happy when I found out that there was already a DFA branch in Alabang Town Center because it would be so much more convenient for us to go there. Plus, it's inside the mall which makes it even better! ;p

I realized that I needed to get my passport renewed already, and figured I'll just get Skyler one as well para sabay na. Although it says in their website (http://alabang.passport.com.ph) that children below 1 year old do not need appointments, I still went ahead and made one for both of us (using the family appointment option).

We were scheduled on a Tuesday at 4pm. We arrived a little bit earlier (like around past 3pm), and normally you will not be entertained until 30 minutes before your appointment. But since we were with Skyler (who was 9 months old at that time), they let us in at once. Oh, and hubby was also with us. I think they usually only let one parent/companion in (unless all of you will be getting passports) but since I also had an appointment, hubby became Skyler's chaperone.

Here were the other requirements I brought:

- Printed Application Form (on long bond paper)
- Skyler's Original Birth Certificate from the NSO (plus a photocopy)
- Our Marriage Certificate from the NSO (plus a photocopy)
- Original and photocopy of valid passport of the person traveling with the minor (in our case, I brought mine and hubby's as well)
- I also photocopied our IDs (driver's license) just in case they ask for it

In the general requirements list though, there is an item requiring a Notarized Affidavit of Support and Consent to travel from either parent (if minor is a legitimate child) / from mother (if minor is an illegitimate child).

I was really confused about this and didn't know if I had to make one since Skyler was going to be traveling with me anyway. I tried to research and some said you still had to submit one regardless, while others said there was no need. In the end, I didn't make it since I remember not having one when I applied for Miley and Sabe's passports a couple of years ago. And I was right, since they didn't ask us for it. You only need to submit this if the child will NOT be traveling with the parents:

Affidavit of Support and Consent (ASC) executed by either parent indicating the name of the traveling companion and relationship to the minor. If minor will be traveling alone, ASC must be executed by either parent, stating that his/her child will be traveling alone. If minor is illegitimate, mother should execute the ASC.

There are other more specific requirements for minors with different cases (parents abroad, illegitimate, orphaned, adopted, etc). So just check the website for those.

It was all smooth-sailing once we got inside. First, we presented our application forms at the Appointment Counter. Then, we were given a queue number and then waited a bit for our number to be called (maybe about 5 minutes). We then went to the processing window where all our documents were checked. I remember having to photocopy something again but the xerox machine was just a few steps away so no problem. You'll also be asked if you prefer rush (7 working days) or regular (15 working days) processing.

We then proceeded to the Passport Enrollment Section where we paid the processing fees: P950 for regular and P1,200 for rush. We just got the regular since we weren't in a hurry anyway. After, we headed to the Encoding Section where all the data from our application form was entered in the computer system. They also make you double check all information and then when your're ok with it, your photo is finally taken.

Skyler wore a white collared shirt btw. But I think it can even be just a regular collar since it's not even noticeable in the final pic. It was also so funny because Skyler had a scratch near his eye so I had to apply concealer to make sure it didn't show in the pics. They were able to take his picture quickly but then the computer hanged so we had to do it again! Which is a shame coz I think his first photo was cuter hehe. ;p

such a good boy!

Anyway, you can choose to have your passport delivered to you for an extra fee of P120 per passport. But we just chose to pick it up when it was released since it was another excuse to go back to the mall. ;p

There were still a lot of people in line waiting and I don't really know the average time one normally spends if not on the priority lane. But I swear, having a baby is the way to go hehe! Ang bilis!

Anyway, passport of a minor applicant shall be released to parents only or to an authorized representative. Our release time was from 1:00-3:00 pm, 15 working days later, and it was also a breeze getting it.

And finally, here's Skyler's passport pic! Open-mouth pa talaga e haha! Ang cute! As for me, I'm not happy with my pic as usual hehe. I really can't carry the no-smile look hehe. ;p

Anyway, DFA Alabang is located at the 4th floor of Metro Department Store, Alabang Town Center (near the toy section). They're open from 10AM to 7PM, Mondays to Saturdays. Go to http://alabang.passport.com.ph to set an appointment and for other details.

Back to Black

The last time I had my hair colored was waaaay back in June. That was when I had it done in Fringe Salon and really went for a lighter shade (the lightest my hair has ever been actually). Here's the pics from that salon trip:

Anyway, 5 whole months went by and now my hair is a hot mess. Actually, I still like the color but the roots are what's annoying the crap out of me. I like having light hair but it is hard to maintain for me. I'm not the type pa naman who would go to the salon every month to have the roots colored. Time consuming and sayang sa pera. ;p

eeeewww kadiri I know! ;p

So I finally decided to just go back to my original color. I had it done in David's Salon (Santana Grove branch) since I saw they had a 50% off promo during that time. It cost about P1,250 for my long hair which was a pretty good deal. :)

Anyway, here's how my hair looks like now. Goodbye ugly roots! It's not exactly black since it still looks brown under the sun or when hit by the light. Which is just what I wanted. And now, I don't have to dye it again when it grows longer. At least not until I decide to go lighter again. :)

We had a wedding to attend the next day in Tagaytay and I was so happy with my new overall look. I didn't realize how much I missed having dark hair haha! Oh, and I did my own makeup pala, ok ba? Kinda natural look lang ang kinalabasan haha. I'm still a bit scared to go darker on the eyes or do the whole smoky eye thing. Practice muna lol. ;p

What do you think? Do you prefer dark or lighter colored hair on me? :)

Party planning time again!

I am super busy these days because my baby Skyler is turning 1 in January! I can't believe it actually... I still remember this time last year, I was super pregnant and just counting down the weeks until I was about to give birth. And now Skyler's crawling and almost walking and talking! Time really flies by so fast. And speaking of flying, here's a teaser of what the theme for his party will be:

Well, I think it's already pretty obvious hehe! His name is Skyler after all! We were actually thinking at first if we should just have a small party for him, like just our immediate family. But then, you only have a 1st birthday once right? And his Ate and Kuya both had big parties so hubby and I figured he should have one too. Just because he's our 3rd child doesn't mean he shouldn't have the same as his siblings right? And you know me, I just love celebrations and doing DIY stuff. Kaya go na!

Anyway, I just can't wait for all the details to come together. I have most of the suppliers already and am still finalizing a couple more. It will surely be a busy Christmas season for me. :)

Stockton Place

One of my best friends wanted to try out Stockton Place when she came for a quick visit from Singapore, so off we went last week to have dinner there.

The place was highly recommended based on the reviews I read online (and I always see it on my social media feed too) so I went ahead and made a reservation through their website for 7:30pm. I received a text right away informing me that they only had tables available either from 6-8pm or 8-10pm. We were still planning to watch a movie after so we just decided on the 6-8pm time slot. I was told to just let them know if we were planning on arriving after 6pm so they could hold the table for us. So I guess maybe you can arrive even at 7pm as long as you're done by 8 for the next batch? hehe :)

Anyway, I guess another good thing about eating early was that we had parking right in front of the resto considering this was in Salcedo Street on a Wednesday. I know parking can be quite challenging in the Makati area especially near all the offices.

There were only two other people there when we arrived, but we were seated near the entrance right when you enter the door. We asked if we could sit somewhere else but I guess all the other tables were for bigger groups (and the place is quite small too). We were beside the window and it was kinda dark, so sorry if all my pics have bad lighting. ;p

love the floors

 Here's their menu:

We started off with the Butternut Squash soup which was really rich and flavorful. Hubby and I shared this so they split it into 2 bowls. Loved how they served it by pouring the soup right in front of us.

Butternut Squash
Goat Cheese Tortellini, and Hazelnut and Bacon Crumble
P250

I ordered the Sweet Potato Tortellini because I read good reviews about it. But it kinda tasted a little bland for me.

Sweet Potato Tortellini
Brown Butter Thyme Sauce, Hazelnut Crumble, and Prosciutto Crisp
P370

Hubby had the Poached Chicken and it was beautifully presented. The crisp chicken skin was a nice touch.

Poached Chicken
Truffle Mushroom Duxelle, Truffled Mashed Potatoes, and Crisp Chicken Skin
P550

My friend had the Crispy Pork Belly and honestly, we were surprised at how small the serving was! I mean look at its size compared to the plate! Parang kaya ubusin in 2 bites lol! We were joking that this had better be mind-blowing, but aside from the presentation, we didn't really find anything special about it.

Crispy Pork Belly
Cherry Pork Sauce, Onion Puree, and Pommery Mashed Potatoes
P650

For dessert, we had the Cheesecake and it was light and refreshing.

Cheesecake
Graham Crumble, Glazed Blueberries, Lemon Foam, and Fresh Berries
P300

Overall, the food was good but it didn't exceed our expectations. The presentation and plating were wonderful, but servings are kinda small which I guess is normal for these type of restaurants. Un tipong gutom ka pa after and gusto mo mag drive thru haha (and actually, we did eat pa after in Greenbelt while waiting for our movie lol)! And it is quite pricey. But service was excellent, our server even asked for any allergies we had just in case.

But I'm glad we were still able to try it, so at least we can say that we've already eaten here diba? ;p

Divi Buys (party prizes)

$
0
0
One of my favorite things about throwing birthday parties is buying prizes! Probably because I can buy a lot without feeling guilty since it's not for me naman hehe. And basically anything shopping-related just makes me happy. :)

Anyway, where else to go but Divisoria of course! I just went around mostly in 168 Mall and didn't go anymore in the streets or in the non-aircon buildings. I'm sure the prices there are cheaper but I just didn't want to get hassled anymore with all the crowds and heat.

When buying prizes, I'm on the lookout for anything cheap but of course, don't look it naman hehe. And most of these items I've been seeing around in bazaars and malls being sold for twice the price or even more actually. And I like getting stuff that I know my kids will like winning if they were the ones attending a party. :)

I bought these Lego-like figurines for only P25 each. My kids love these and there are actually so many different types (Marvel Superheroes, Star Wars, etc.). And I know these are being sold in tiangges and bazaars for P50 each.

These are like bigger versions of the Lego figurines. They only had IronMan though. Better for smaller kids so they don't lose the parts. I think these were P35 each.

I got these jumbo crayons for 3 for P100.

I really can't resist cute erasers. The sets with the pencils were 3 for P100 and the Eiffel Tower and London erasers were P40 or P50 each.

These notepad/pencil sets were also 3 for P100. And there were so many Frozen items pala these days. If you're throwing a Frozen-themed party, you can find everything in Divisoria!

These big coloring book sets were P60 each since I got 12 pieces. And I liked that they had a lot of characters to choose from (Spiderman, Cars, Toy Story, etc for the boys / Princess, Hello Kitty, Barbie, etc for the girls).

These were probably my favorite find - scratch notepads! These were only P25 each and they are so cute!

The paper is multi-colored underneath and then covered with a black layer. You use the wooden pencil (or even a toothpick) to write on the pad and the drawings turn out really colorful. My daughter loves it and here's some of her creations. Super cute right? I just absolutely love these! :)

I also bought these luggage tags (since Skyler's party is travel themed after all). What I love about them aside from the colors is the fact that they're rewritable. I can't remember the exact price, but definitely less than P100 each.

So there you have it, some of the prizes I'm giving away for the party. I'm getting so excited already! :)

There are so many new restaurants that have opened in SM BF the past couple of months, one of which is Shitamachi Japanese Chashu House. Shitamachi serves Japanese comfort food prepared in the tradition of Japanese downtown dining.

open kitchen at the back
love the interior details like this wall...
and their hanging lights too, which are made from mason jars I believe

They have a lot of items on their menu which you can check out HERE. Since Chashu is their specialty dish, we went ahead and ordered their Ramen Set which also came with gyoza, gohan (rice), and dessert. It was really yummy and left us craving for more.

We also ordered the Chicken Teriyaki which was also really good.

The dessert that came with the Ramen Set was this mango sago pudding which I really loved!

Overall, a great dining experience. We loved the food and will definitely be back for more. :)

Troubles getting pregnant

$

0
I'm extremely lucky that I've had no trouble getting pregnant with my 3 kids. But I personally know some couples who have difficulties in conceiving and have really tried so many methods to have a baby.

Have you heard of In-vitro fertilization or IVF? IVF is one of the most popular types of Assisted Reproductive Technique (ART). How it works is the woman’s egg and the man’s sperm is joined in a laboratory dish. It is an unnatural way to help women conceive, but works nonetheless! However not everyone with trouble conceiving can afford the costs of undergoing IVF as it is all a bit expensive. Those couples who cannot afford to undergo IVF opt for a cheaper way to help them try to conceive.

Some couples try traditional Chinese medicines, have acupuncture sessions, or use Chinese medical herbs. These are way more cheap compared to IVF. Our friends from www.pregnancytips.org also say that some couples also turn to over the counter fertility supplements like ConceiveEasy to help them get pregnant. These fertility supplements normally help a woman’s body be ready to conceive by stimulating ovulation, regulating their hormones as well as lengthening their luteal phase, all of which are necessary to achieve conception. If you are trying to get pregnant, you may want to try these tips.

I'm sure this will be a treat for kids of all ages, just like my son who was excited to see Toothless up close and in person. :)

Right beside the Toothless display is the giant Christmas tree which is a perfect spot for a nice family picture as well.

On the other side of the mall near the grocery is another display, this time of a Viking ship! My son had fun riding on it and pretending to sail away on an adventure. :)

There are other activities in SM City BF Paranaque this Christmas season like the Santa Claus Meet & Greet happening at 5PM on December 12, 19, and 21. Crafters are also in for a treat as the mall holds the Christmas Loom Craze ongoing until January 4, 2015 from 10AM to 9PM.

Zabo Chicken

My family and friends know how much I love chicken, and it's usually what I order when eating out. They always joke that I'm such a boring eater since I'm perfectly happy with a plain chicken dish even though there's so many other items to choose from. Plus, I can't live without rice and I could probably eat the whole kaldero if I wanted to (yes, kain karpintero talaga!).

That's why it's no surprise that I'm a fan of Zabo Chicken since aside from their roast chicken, they also have an UNLIMITED rice buffet!

SM City BF Paranaque branch

Their menu is very affordable and the food is very Mediterranean inspired.

We started with the Hummus served with pita bread (P70) which was a good appetizer.

We ordered the Half Roast Chicken with rice (P240) which they boast as having 18 different spices like rosemary, thyme, and garlic. We also had to ask for more of the white garlic sauce which goes perfectly with the chicken.

This is the Quarter Roast Chicken with rice (P165) just so you see the size difference.

Of course, the thing I was most excited to try was their Unlimited Rice Buffet (P29). I believe the choices were Zabo Chicken Rice, Zabo Spicy Chicken Rice, Carrot Rice, Brown Rice, Garlic Rice, and Plain White Rice. My favorite has got to be the carrot rice and I was able to finish 3 cups! The Zabo Chicken Rice was also good which is what they serve with the chicken sets. The Spicy Chicken Rice was a little too spicy for my taste though.

We also ordered the Zabo Chicken Wrap (P145) which was good as well.

And you can also take your pick with their different sauces like Chili Oil, Sweet Chili, Sweet Sauce, Gravy, Tarator (sesame-based) and the Garlic Paste which we loved.

I think this is a great alternative to eating in all those other fast foods. Plus, you really can't go wrong with their unli rice right? ;p

Online shopping for Christmas gifts

I was just in the mall last Sunday and there were soooo many people everywhere shopping like there’s no tomorrow! Not to mention the traffic was terrible, it took forever to find parking, and it was so hard to move around with our strollers without bumping anyone every 5 seconds. It definitely makes me want to skip going anywhere until the Christmas season is over!

I still have a few gifts to buy so I’m thankful there are now so many online shops which makes everything so much more convenient. Here’s some ideas for Christmas presents you can buy right in the comfort of your own home! :)

I think anything personalized makes a great and thoughtful gift. Name On Print has items like trays, tumblers, coasters, cellphone/tablet cases, and so much more. You can choose from so many designs and colors or simply customize your own.

Paper products like notecards and notepads from Paper&Print by Unico or Papelito are also practical and useful to give to family and friends.

Instagram inspired items are always a big hit with anyone. I gave these pillow cases from InstaMUGto our parents last year and they were so touched with it. My mom says she keeps looking at the photos on the pillows everyday!

Aside from loads of fashion finds, Zalora has an extensive selection of make-up that would make perfect Christmas gifts for your female friends and family. I know I’d love to get some lipstick or an eyeshadow palette, wouldn’t you? ;p

Or you can head over to Seek the Uniq for lots of unique finds from clothing, accessories, bags, home decor, and even stuff for kids. Check out some of my buys from their site HERE. And you don’t even have to wrap what you bought anymore since they come beautifully packaged already.

With Christmas just around the corner, it’s definitely time to hurry up and complete those lists! Happy shopping everyone! :)

My daughter loves to doodle, color and do all sorts of arts & crafts activities. Lately, I’ve noticed that her drawings have become more detailed - from all kinds of animals, to houses, and of course different types of characters.

I just love how she uses her imagination to create all these drawings. She even gives them names and tells me stories about them.

IKEA in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong

When we went to Hong Kong last month, I knew I just wanted to go shopping in one place only. I wasn't interested in going to the night markets or the fashion outlets, just IKEA. Yes, I was on a mission lol. ;p I've been lusting over so many of their products for the longest time and was so excited to finally be able to visit an actual store! The last time I was able to go to an IKEA was in Singapore 4 years ago.

Our main itinerary was really Disneyland, but we had a free day to do whatever. So I did my research and found out they had 3 branches in HK - Causeway Bay, Kowloon Bay, and Shatin. We decided to just go to the one in Causeway Bay since we really haven't been around that part of the city yet during previous visits. So at least we could still explore after with the kids.

We took the MRT to Causeway Bay and we were supposed to go out at exit E which was the closest one based on the map. But we ended up in a different exit (probably because we were looking for the nearest elevator since we had 2 strollers) and I had to ask somewhere for directions. Good thing we were still pretty close, and we finally reached the place after walking for a few more minutes.

The IKEA I went to in Singapore was huge and it was like a warehouse type building. Here, we had to go down an escalator since the store was in the basement. So it was definitely smaller, but still complete.

I love how the store is laid out into different sections as you walk through (living room, bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, etc.) which makes looking for things more organized. I totally love the set-ups of the different areas, especially the bedrooms, which gives you a lot of inspiration when setting up your own space. It makes you want to buy everything and redo your whole house, ang gaganda! ;p

The kiddie bedrooms were so cute too. Miley was like, "Mom can this be my room?" There were so much I wanted to buy (like that leaf canopy below) but we had limited space in our luggage so I had to prioritize.

Of course, the kids were getting so bored already after a while (including daddy), but they got excited again when we reached the toys. And thank goodness for this little play area that kept them occupied for a bit while I looked around. ;p

I thought we had reached the end of the store, but then there was another level going down and that's were all the accessories and decorations were pala! I was drooling over all the trays, plates, bowls, picture frames, artworks, and many more. Haaay, pwede ba iuwi lahat? The 2nd basement was also where you pick up the items you liked from the upper level (like beddings or furniture).

We were so hungry after since it was already lunchtime. I was excited to eat in their restaurant but I got disappointed when they only had a small cafe without even any tables or chairs. Basically, you just buy your food and eat standing up. Good thing we were still able to eat their famous meatballs which were so yummy!

Oh how I wish I could buy everything I wanted and bring them home! Can they just please open an IKEA store here in the Philippines already? Anyway, stay tuned for my shopping loot in the next post! :)
